Climbing friend,

I believe it is when your friend of multiple pitch takes too long to do the leading of the runout pitch. When you are arriving at the belay you will kick your climbing friend in the buttocks fiercely, toe between the cheeks, which is where I believe this term is arising.

I believe he means having your feet behind the rope when you are leading.

Not a term I've ever heard before. That doesn't mean it's not a real term, but I think I would have heard it before. Strange request of your instructor.

i think it's gym talk for stepping through......or what aleks said

^^^ Think stepping through and making sure your foot/leg is behind the rope. You "scoop" the rope out of the way with your toe.

Hope that helps.

Ok yeah i totally think the last two comments nailed it. Im almost positive when my instructor said toe tucking he means scooping the rope out of he way with my toe when stepping through... it might be a term that only this individual guy uses, i'll find out tomorrow. anyways thank you for the answers!

I googled "toe tucking" and now I'm probably going to be fired for viewing "inappropriate materials" at work.
I was only off by 1 letter....

It makes you wonder.... with a term like toe tucking, how much exposure does this "instructor" have to the rest of the real climbing world. And how obscure are the rest of the techniques and terms he is teaching?

Ok, seriously- what did your instructor say this means?

It was basically his way of telling me not to step between the rope and the wall. he said you want to keep your toe tucked behind the rope when steppin through
