Best guide book for acadia national park
|
What's the best book for Acadia? I have the rock climbing new England book but its beat. |

There is an out of print of guide by Jeff Butterfield that you can sometimes find on the used market. The guidebook is a little old but generally pretty good. For the main climbs on the Precipice, you can get by with the info listed on this site. Otter Cliffs is a little trickier but is usually so crowded that you can ask someone to supplement the info on this site. Some of the smaller, less visited cliffs are trickier. |

The best is Jeff Butterfield's - but it is out of print. Some of the climbing shops in Bar Harbor might have a desk copy. |

The Rakkup App is pretty solid. The app works on iphone or android and you can either rent the guidebook for 2 months for 8 bucks or buy it for 16. I found it to be pretty good when I was there and the descriptions/pictures/diagrams all seemed to be accurate. It was also convenient not have to buy a guidebook for a place I knew I probably wasn't going to be going very frequently. |

There was a scanned PDF going around of the [old] Butterfield book. Once it went out of print it was becoming impossible to find. If you ask it may still be available. |

I would be really interested in the Grant Simmons guide. I met him while I was working at a gear shop in New Paltz him and his partner gave a talk about big wall climbing in south america. |

+1 on the Grant Simmons app. I don't like using my phone, but it's the best source of up to date route info, especially for precipice. For otter cliffs mountain project is perfectly adequate. |

I´m glad to hear that folks have been happy with the Rakkup app. I think that it´s a great way to go if you are just swinging through the island for a couple of days (though, admittedly, I am a bit biased...). The app will be updated this spring to include the island´s smaller crags and many outlying climbs. |

I somehow ended up with this pocket guide and if you PM me I will mail it to you for free. I have no interest in owning it and would love for someone to actually use it rather than it end up in a recycling bin... |

I'm very excited to announce that the new guidebook is now available. Find it in your local New England climbing shop, or at rockclimbsofacadia.com. |
