Just wanted to give a thumbs up to the Beehive Ice Guide book that just came out. I am in no way affiliated, but I have to say it is awesome. Great pics, nice descriptions and good information for approaches and descents, as well as good information about typical conditions.

Found this beautiful ice while exploring Southern Utah. Does anyone know anything about it?

Anyone else have recent info about stuff in Logan canyon? Would like to lead some of the easier stuff if possible. Thanks!

Logan Canyon has been very warm (along with the rest of the state). I tried to keep an eye open for any of the regular flows near the highway last weekend but did not see anything. There is hardly any snow below Temple Fork. Other than Last Chance Falls you are probably not going to find anything in Logan Canyon right now.

I have this weekend free. I'd like to hit Joe's Valley for the first time ever. Then again I've never been to Maple Canyon either. Where would you go to find a group to connect with, and WI3-WI4 to climb? Kevin. By the way, City of Rocks is not good for rock climbing yet, and the ice climbing is average for this time of year. If you have never climbed ice at the City, it is worth doing once. Just to have the experience. Is it worth the gas for a second ice trip? No.

Just drove by Screamers this morning. It was in and thin but looked climbable.

I was in Joe's 3 weeks ago and things were melting out fast. I am sure that you could find some of the smaller routes in. Pitch one of ccc might be in but, I don't know if it would be worth the drive. I guess as a consolation or back-up you do Huntington, as a plan you could the dirt-cicle (I know it is in - saw it on Sunday).

Got some laps in at Provo Canyon yesterday. First two pitches of Stairway had some good ice following the recent melt-freeze cycle we've had. Good screw placements, we mostly used 16 cm. Couple of hollow spots but the ice was mostly well attached. Upper pitches were looking awfully thin.

Climbed Screamers today. It was a bit hollow at the bottom then turned into plastic to the top.

That pic makes Screamer Left look like WI2-3. It's WI4 in the guide books. What would you rate it?

The picture makes it look less steep than what it is. Felt like WI3, but I'm not very good at ratings. For me it's WI Easy, Medium, Hard or Impossible 😊

I use that same rating system-- WI easy WI hard or WI I'm not climbing it. Ice changes so fast that putting a set rating on something doesn't work very well. I look at ratings in ice as more of a guideline. Alpine Rocket thanks for the information. Dallen

Seeking conditions, understanding it has been less than ideal temps. Has anyone been out to Strawberry Pinnacles recently. How about Santaquin?

Nope...I get to my Strawberry cabin mid-Feb. May check it out then, if no one else gets there first. Seems to be a lot of snow melt cycles in the area this year, so who knows, could be good...And all the routes I know of are on the north facing walls, so they see little or no sun. And the mean temps are usually 10 degrees colder there, day and night, than say Provo canyon...

ATV'd it up to Santaquin this AM...very foggy and hard to see routes not in the bottom of the canyon...it appeared as if Angel of Fear, Candlestick, ACT and were all melted out...Squash Head curtain was melted out but above that looked OK and Backoff was thin and chandeliered.

So I'm guessing the GWBBQ isn't happening?
