Hi All!

I'm researching some camping/climbing areas for a week vacation for my family this summer. Any suggestions? I have an 8 and 5 year old who love climbing...we're based in Bozeman, so a 6 hr drive may be all we can handle.

thank you!

If you're looking more for a general family vacation area and not a premium climbing destination, then you could consider heading to Coeur d'Alene, ID. It'd be 5-6 hours drive.

Q'Emiln Park in Post Falls is right on the Spokane River with life-guarded beach swimming and around 90 single pitch (mostly sport) routes that are easily accessed and family friendly. The park is ideal for mixing up some BBQ'ing, swimming, and climbing. There is no camping in Q'Emiln but you can find National Forest, State, and County campgrounds in the area with hiking and lakes and such. Try Beauty Creek, Mica Bay, Farragut, Heyburn for camping within 30 min or so. There's kayak, raft, sailboat, and paddle boards available for rental at North Idaho College, right where the Spokane River meets Lake Coeur d'Alene and another nice beach and park there with some touristy shops and restaurants nearby in downtown CdA. There are several rails-to-trails bike paths in the area that the kids might enjoy including some that go through old train tunnels through the mountains. Lots to do for a week of climbing mixed with other family outings.

City of Rocks, near Almo ID has great camping and some good beginner climbing areas. Castle Rock State Park is 10 minutes away with lots of sport climbing.
On weekends it's generally necessary to have a reserved camp site. You can do this on Reserve America.

I was thinking of the City of Rocks too...maybe for a couple of nights and then do the Tetons or Sun Valley after.

Thanks for the input!
