Does anyone have experience traveling to potrero solo? How many climbers are there this time of year? Were you able to find partners? I'm thinking about taking a few days down there and would love to hear from anyone that did a solo trip. Thanks.

I went there by myself in November, just the start of the high season, and there were tons of other climbers. Many of them were also solo, but lots are also welcoming even if they have partners. The highest time is December and January. You will have absolutely no problem. It's great!

What is the best way to get from the airport to EPC? I was informed of a person on here however I have not been able to contact him. Thanks in advance.

Apparently there's a guy named Magic Ed that will pick you up. He's email is on the EPC info site. I emailed him but haven't heard back. I know it's the busy season. Hope to see you all down there sooner or later.

He will get back to you guys don't worry. You just have to realize that the pace in Mexico is very different than what it is in the states.

Haha. Yeah I am a city slicker man, and emailed the wrong guy anyhow. Looking forward to the pace.

I just got back from the potrero, and heard Magic Ed is having health issues. You may want to get in touch with Mario at Quinta La Pagoda, who can also pick you up from the airport. Or just take a cab from the airport -- I just did with little problem and speak almost zero spanish.

I just returned yesterday from a week long trip to EPC. Our group had arranged with Magic Ed to be picked up at the airport and taken to La Posada. After waiting for a couple of hours, trying to reach Magic Ed without success, we hired a taxi. It was an uneventful ride and I felt totally safe even though I speak no Spanish.

I also heard Magic Ed was having health issues. I'm assuming that's why he didn't pick us up. Hope his health improves.

There were a lot of options for partners last week. I'm sure you'll have no trouble finding someone to climb with.

Where do you fly into? And how long is the drive from the border should one choose to road trip it? Thanks in advance.

Scott, we flew into Monterrey. It was about an hour taxi ride to EPC. I don't have anything useful to offer about driving there from the US other than to say several climbers from all over the US chose this option. Sierra Madre Research on fb has a comment regarding the border crossing. I'm sure you could contact them for more specific details.

Scott, potrerochico.org has a comprehensive step by step outline of everything involved in crossing at Laredo. I found it to be spot on for the entire process of crossing the border, obtaining a vehicle license, and driving to the climbing area. I highly recommend getting your vehicle permit beforehand by mail. It's incredibly easy and saves a lot of time at the permit office, especially if it's busy. Have fun!
