Planning on climbing in AZ for the month of February. Planning on hitting up Cochies, some of the lower stuff on mt. Lemmon, Sedona, and checking out the homestead. Any recommendations for some other good winter spots?

Thanks!

I'll be in AZ in Feb too, meeting up with a couple friends in Tucson for a weekend, other than that I'll be looking for partners. AZ has a lot of good climbing: Cochise, Sedona, Granite Mtn (if its warm enough), Waterfall would be the classic areas but there is a ton of backcountry climbing in southern AZ. Mendoza Canyon, Baboquivari and Table Mtn are worth checking out if you want adventure. Most of the climbing lower on Mt Lemmon isn't destination-worthy; the best of winter climbing there would be Chimney Rock from my experience - a bunch of great 5.10 pitches. Windy Pt has a lot of great climbing, but tends to be cold in Feb.

Brandon is obviously unfamiliar with MT. Lemmon.
Forgotten Wall has loads of great climbs and is sunny all day. On a 65-70 degree day The Ruins and Weather Top have super good climbs, a bit chilly till the sun comes around. Sun Spots has several 3 star climbs. All of these crags have trad and sport climbs to do.
Chimney rock is really good also but certainly not the only crag to visit on the Lemmon.

Adam, contact me when you get in town, I'll give you the tour.

Cheers.

I have to agree with Jim on this. There are tons of routes to be done on Mount Lemmon all year round unless it is raining. I was climbing at about 8,000 foot elevation on Sunday when it was mid 60's in town. We were at an area that faced into the sun and it wasn't a windy day, so we were climbing in tee shirts and the conditions couldn't have been more pleasant.

Sweet! Thanks for the info! I'll be in touch when I get down there.
