Hello Mountain Project Folks,

I am currently traveling throughout SE Asia, and I am looking for climbing partner(s) for Laos, Vietnam, and beyond for the upcoming weeks and possibly months. So far I've been in Thailand for a month, doing the backpacker thing, and I've gotten in a week of climbing at Ton Sai & Krabi and a day at Crazy Horse outside Chiang Mai. Later this week I will head into northern Laos and down to Vang Vieng, where I hear there are some stellar cliffs. From there I'll continue east to Halong Bay in northern Vietnam, probably catching some caves, adventures, and whatever climbing there is along the way. After that it's up in the air - likely loop through Cambodia and Bangkok en route to India and Nepal.

I'm traveling with shoes, a harness, an ATC, and a locking biner. If the opportunity arises to climb with a partner for two weeks or more, I'd be cool with buying a rope and draws. The climbing out here is pretty much all sport (bummer bc I'm a bit of a trad fiend, crack whore ;)). I can lead up to 5.11a (low 6c French scale) confidently and am always willing to hop on harder stuff up to 5.11d (7a French) or so.

About me: I recently completed a five-month road trip rock climbing around the western United States with my buddy, living out of a Volkswagen van. My primary interests are to travel to new places and meet friends, while climbing as much as possible along the way.

Reply or shoot me a message if you're interested! My plans are pretty flexible. I'd also be glad to answer any questions about Thailand climbing for those looking to head this way.

Since this is my first MP post, I'll throw this out there too: my longer-term, 3-4 month out goal is to do some heavy duty mountaineering w/ technical rock and/or ice, possibly in Nepal or wherever the going is good. If this strikes your fancy, hit me up!

Hey Dan

I'm curently in vang vieng in laos for new years. I plan to be here for a couple weeks if I can find people to climb with. The town and surrounding area is awesome. I've been in thailand the past couple months diving in koh tao and climbing in tonsai/railay. Not near as many climbers here to meet as there was in railay. I'm itching to get on a wall. When do u think you will be coming this way??

I have just my shoes and harness but I'd be down to throw in on gear rentals or whatever we need. Just let me know! Hope to hear from you soon

Hi Torrin, your timing is great! I'm in Luang Nam Tha now, and I'm catching a bus south to Luang Prabang in a couple hours. I'll be there just a day or two then head to Vang Vieng, so I could be climbing as early as Monday or Tuesday. I've only got approx. 4 climbing days in Vang Vieng because I need to get to Hanoi (Halong Bay) by Jan. 10.

How does that sound? Meet up early next week? I'll update you on my plans if anything changes.
