Torn rotator cuff or shoulder injury

The whole issue with them is whether the goop they make out of your stem cells is a drug that needs regulating or not. They thought as long as the stem cell treatment was made and applied in a same day office trip that it would not be classifies as a drug. They have a separate operation on one of the caribbean island countries where they do a 3 day procedure. |

Old and Busted wrote:Hey Denny, just noticed your tear is non-retracted. You might give Regenexx a call. They couldn't help me b/c of the 2cm gap, but they were a couple months ago looking for rotator cuff tears for a study (free treatment).I should have read this sooner. I had my surgery about a month ago. I finally am out of the sling and working on stretches and PT. I am trying to regain my range and motion and then work on strength training. Dr. said he put in extra stitches and said I should heal good. Every day it feels like it gets a little better. I am now free of my sling but still careful with my arm. I go to PT twice per week. My shoulder feels sore most of the time now. Maybe some massages would help. |

I had a Dr. tell me once we are only supposed to live to 45 from a evolution perspective.Too true..my elbow Doc said.."of course your shoulder is messed up,it almost HAS to be given your history" |

Did he use a screw(s) along with the stitches or just the latter? |
|
I think my doctor used allot of stitches. He didn't say anything to me about putting in any screws. Doc said not to worry about pulling a stitch or two that he sowed me up good. What ever that means. I am at 7 weeks now. I wouldn't say this has been hell with the surgery and Physical therapy . It has been a big inconvenience and PT is uncomfortable doing my stretches but I don't push it beyond the unbearable point. Going right up to that point and holding it for 20 seconds and moving repetitive motion seems to work best. Each week I make a more progress in my range and motion. The problem i fear will come when I start working on strength exorcises. |

Tore rotator cuff due to overuse. I went to a specialist who gave me two options, surgery or steroids/rest. I decided to go to a physical therapist because I had had success with them in the past. The PT told me that the reason my rotator tore was due to instability in my shoulder joints as well as in the muscles in my back. I did physical therapy religiously for 3 months and had never felt better. |

DennyW wrote:Finally got MRI and the results. Nonretracted full thickness and partial thickness tears of the supraspinatus tendon. Subdeltoid bursitis with some intraluminal debris, & Mild acromioclavicular osteoarthropathy. Looks like my Ice climbing year is done as well as canyoneering, rock climbing for the next 9 months. Really sucks to. Surgion says best to get it done right away or It will be harder to fix. 6 to 9 month recovery and PT. This really sucks cause I had a new pair of Ice climbing boots ordered for the ice climbing season. If anybody cares, ill be in the corner crying myself to sleep. I don't even have a good story to tell how I hurt myself. Probably lifting my pack with three ropes, a full rack of cams and stoppers. My buddy just found out he has similar issue, plus labrum. He was wrestling, and wont be climbing for 3-9 months again. Be serious about your rehab. do it religiously! Better to lose less than a year then the rest of your life! Good luck with your rehab. |

I have climbed with a torn rotater cuff for over 20 years. Definitely a matter of choices. Was never willing to risk what I knew worked on a satisfactory level. The pain aspect is subjective. |

Recently started climbing again after a multi-decade hiatus. I was just diagnosed with a full thickness tear of the anterior margin of the supraspinatus tendon along with a partial thickness tear of the distal infraspinatus tendon. I'm having arthroscopic repair of both tears plus biceps tenodesis (which should expert says is now standard for any athletic person who has RTC repair). Doc bummed me out when he said a year of recovery. I'm going to push for a more aggressive recovery program, which I have been told is possible. I'll post updates.. |
