Climbing/approach shoes for wide feet

The Guide Tennies came in, I have been wearing them around the house to break them in. Size came out to US 9. A tad long, but not bad. Still a little narrow, but nothing I haven't dealt with before. The toe box feels a little stuffy, I figure it's just a new shoe feeling, not cramped, just different.

Used them to play a round of disk golf. They suck in mud. Greenbelt in Austin next week, gotta get them cleaned up and dried out.

I have wide feet.

Interestingly enough, although I generally don't fit well into Sportiva shoes, the Gandas fit my feet pretty well.

You might want to at least try them on and see if they fit. They are by far the best climbing approach shoe I've ever worn.

I've been using the Patagonia Rovers for about 6 months. You might want to check them out. They're definitely the most comfortable approach shoes for my feet I've ever had. They fit more like merrel or new balance "barefoot" running shoes than most approach shoes: zero drop, low volume mid foot and wider across the toes. I ended up with them sized down a half size from my Normal street size, and they climb pretty well. Compared to my la sportiva Boulder X's they are less sticky, less stiff, way less heavy, wider in the toes, way more comfortable, and probably a lot less durable in the uppers, though that remains to be seen, as I haven't been jamming them in many cracks or scrambling through talus yet.

I am pretty sure it's jamming that got my Scarpas.

The new Five Ten Camp 4's are RAD for the wide footed among us. I tried them on yesterday at Desert Rock Sports and man are they sweet. Had I not asked for 'em for Christmas, I would have bought on the spot...

Hi All,
Reviving an old topic. Anything better than guide tennies for wider feet; with enough support for long approach.  Grand Teton or Eastern Sierra type approach.

Thanks for any info.

Last gen tennies were garbage and would delam like crazy i cant speak for the current gen but i would avoid them, la sportiva's new TX line has received allot of praise for it's wide toe box that doesn't sacrifice climbing ability.

Thanks for the updated insight and info.  So, older tennies had it pretty dialed in, but updates lost it?

Mike, I've been using Salewa Wildfire Pro's for about 6 months now. Long hikes with heavy loads, they work really well. They certainly don't climb as well as my guide tennis, but they are wonderful for my feet. Super comfortable, a bit hot, decent climbing ability, though they're a bit soft.

Hey Dallas, I have the female version of your scarpa, and my shoes torn in the same spot too. I don't think it's your feet. I think it's the shoes/make/model/brand/product.  I really do love my shoes though so I'm going to keep wearing it until it falls apart.

They fined out the outsole rubber so the rubber would stretch allot, delaminate, crack and literally fall apart, the leather also seemed to wear through really quickly right on the crease, so literally just walking fucked the upper.

+1 for Salewa.

I'm on my second pair of Firetail 3's, they're great. I've got wide feet too and don't care for the fit of 5.10 Guides. Not super durable, sadly.. but they're nice for running too and I've climbed 5.9 in 'em. Just don't take 'em up a wall...

Adidas Terrex Solo is great for wider feet and they break in well.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
