The 2014-2015 Cody Ice Conditions Thread
Anyone? (Yes, I did check Coldfear...)
High on boulder looked in. Bozo's revenge was in. Slow turning's first pitch was in but stringer was wet and hollow at times as of November 22 and 23rd. |
Is it super warm up there like poor Colorado? The Ice Park will be lucky to open if this weather keeps up, ugh! |
Pretty much everything S-facing got destroyed last week during the warm weather (except for some things way up high, but getting there is problematic). Schoolhouse was in, but getting there was problematic with the running water. Hostile Takeover was there, but a big gap at the top of P2 and topout of P1 looked "interesting." Same goes for Main Vein (i.e. there but "interesting" top out). Smoked Turkey and Grandma's Chicken were slush curtain and water on rock. P2 of Mean Green was looking sketchy through the binocs. HoB and Moonrise were there and at least HoB got climbed; river crossing is the crux there however. Sendero was there but delaminating badly. P1 of Bozo's looked entirely snow-covered. A team from Estes went up to Moratorium - big slab cracked and delaminated on 1st swing so they walked away. Lots of snow slogging needed to get to N-facing climbs in general. Looks like highs out in the Valley are well above freezing through next Tues but at least the lows are in the teens so hopefully things will improve. |

Any news from last WE? |
Day one of a 5 day trip so far, and the thing I noticed was the amount of snow. I am not a local or a regular, only about a once a season tourist out here, but there is a lot of snow in the south fork right now. |
The river in the southfork wasn´t frozen. We had to use garbage bags to cross it. Moonlight was fat and in and so was the Moratorium on the other side of the canyon. |
hows the ice in cody doing at the moment |
Was there last weekend, January 17th through January 19th. Trytych (spell??) and School House had some routes in. Broken Hearts first pitch was melted out. Most of the stuff on the sunny side might be suspect. It was a warm weekend - we even got some rain! |
last pitch of joy after pain from this time last year
the route to the right of the Pillars of the community is Joy after pain this one and Ovisite are the best long ones in cody |
Lead Joy after Pain last year perhaps a bit late in the season hollow, no screws and terrifying for 30' all for a fleeting moment of pride and confidence. Great line. Gonna be in Cody next week if anyone is looking to get out I'd be psyched to run up something Wed. or Thursday. JC 720 352-2328. |

Any info on conditions? |
any recent info on south fork conditions? |
We are here right now. About 30-40% of the routes are in currently. But it is cold so more ice is forming. Ddxranchwyoming.com is great if you need a place to stay. |
Going to be out there next week. With the cold weather back and staying around assuming things will shape up. If anyone has some conditions updates it'd be great to hear. thanks. |
Deer Creek climbs were hit and miss last weekend. Smooth Emerald milkshake was out, but the left and right ghost were fat and healthy. saw some north facing stuff in but didn't venture on the other side of the river. |
gonna be in the so. fork next week and lookin for people to climb with |
Joy after pain is inish. Was really cool watching my buddy Keith smear hi way up the 6 inch pillar at the start. Joy after pain was in as of Saturday. Didn't really check out much else.
