I love crag cats! They seem to be so rare. But my bf's close friend had Norm......one of the coolest crag kitties ever. So glad your Figgy was found....she's beautiful.

Here is Norm.. maybe finding shade at the Cat Wall? :) My bf would lose it though when it was time to leave and it would take hours for the cat to come...they are definitely on their own time ;)

The King Cat, Norm...The Coach's kitty.

Thanks, splitclimber! I was worried about bothering everyone in sight about a missing cat.

Xtine - awesome crag cat.

Kat, we met you at the campground, we were in back of old chevy truck. I am so glad you found her! she looks sweet. I had a road trip cat, went from Seattle to Ouray to NY and back. She loved the desert, especially Smith rock. I am also glad you seemed to be spared the asshole MP forum attack.
Cheers to a happy ending!

This is the best story Ive read on MP yet! It was great to read a happy ending too.

Kat, how is it possible your cat goes on all your adventures? I adopted three four week old kittens after their mom was run over. I was going to find everyone homes but kept them after paying the crazy high vet bill. I still have all three and would like to take them outside if possible. Any advice?

First, get them comfortable in their harnesses.

My cat loves going on short walks near home. She gets really excited when I grab her leash and harness. That said, she gets stressed too far from home, so I can't take her climbing. At least not yet. I don't think just any cat can be a crag cat.

Wow, this is ridiculous, but my eyes got misty reading this.

At first I thought you were referring to a climbing harness! Haha..

Hmmm.. It sounds like lots of cats go out and about. thanks for the reply. I'm going give it a try after everybody gets checked out and made sure their shots are up to date by the vet.

Thanks again!

Now did the lady who found the cat have every right to keep it under booty rules or was the cat too far away from the climb?

She looks like a cool kat, glad you got her back. I've lost a couple of cats to foxes and coyotes it sucks.

I'd say this article pertains to this thread very much. It's titled, "Cats at the Crag." Enjoy.

Maybe there would be less singles with their crag cats out climbing if that climbing dating website was launched?

That is an interesting thought. I've also wondered that if crag cats become common place, will I one day find myself tying in and have a cat pounce and claw at the end of my rope, or jump onto the lead line snaking up the rock?

Thanks, Geoff! And thanks, everyone.

Will - sorry to hear about your cats. Since she went missing I've learned how lucky Figgy is.

Mediocre - the sweet woman who found my cat loooved her and mentioned several times (!) that she had hoped I would flake out on picking her up so she could keep her. I'm glad she did call.

Bill, I'm no cat expert (I've only had this one) but I bet your cat's more likely to like traveling if you start soon, and if you do it often and patiently.

I didn't really do it on purpose. I've always transported my cat around in a bag, first bc I didn't know how else to do it, and then bc I was too lazy to get a carrier. I take her on trips when I don't have anyone to leave her with - that's how she's been on long car/train rides, and hung out in the backwoods of VA and at a beach house in RI. She's generally unfazed by travel.

To be fair, Figgy's dog-like in some ways. When I call her from the backyard, she comes running and jumping over fences, Homeward Bound-style. She also follows me out the front door to the corner, where she meows sadly until I'm out of sight. If I'm back within 20 minutes, I'll find her waiting on the front stoop.

Even so, for the camping trip, it took a lot of trial and error over a month and a half to figure out how to keep her happy. And there are some things you just can't change, which I'm sure is different for every cat.

Hope that helps.

Kat,

we have been getting out with the cats a ton. Indian Creek, the Swell, City of Rocks, Moe's Valley and some slot canyons and other desert adventures.

It has been a blast.

Zac - I love the victory pose!
