Currently have a NF Quince Pro hooded jacket and looking to change for Arc'teryx equivalent. Why? Every tom dick and harry walks round in the NF jacket in shopping centres and I want a jacket that deliveres for day hiking that isn't used by everyone. Any thoughts guys ?? Been looking at both Coreloft and Downfill but wouldn't mind getting some feedback - Thanks

I'm not sure you want MP's thoughts on this one. But I'll give you a civil answer. If that's what you want, go for it. Stand out from the herd. If you think you'll get wet, go with synthetic coreloft. If there is no chance of getting wet, go with down. If you're going high exertion (day hiking probably doesn't qualify), might not want either unless it's just a safety layer in your pack. Maybe consider the new Patagonia Nano Air for high output insulation. It's not like everyone around is rocking Patagucci, similar price point to Arcteryx. Lots to consider!

Just get an Atom LT. It'll be too warm for day hiking, but everyone looks hardcore decked out in dead bird gear. TNF DO make good gear, believe it or not, and it's cheaper than the other brands.

Did you happen to be wearing your NF jacket in the shopping center, when you noticed all the other Tom, Dick and Harry's wearing their NF. Are you a Tom, Dick or Harry? Really, who cares, wear a jacket that suites your needs and performs well. Grab an Eddie Bauer first ascent jacket off the clearance rack, when they have a store wide % off sale and get a good jacket at a great price.

WHile not as popular as TNF, COSTCO was selling tons and tons of arc'teryx atoms up here in anchorage a while ago for $120. They had hundreds of them-all sold out. Arc'teryx is just as trendy IMO. Love their gear-but still trendy as crap.

Missing the point Jesse The jacket is for hiking and the backpak only. My point was everyone seems to have jumped on the NF bandwagon and walking round shopping malls wearing jackets developed for the outdoors My shopping exploits are from the sofa on the laptop

You don't see many people wearing Rab or Mountain Equipment here in North America. Another option for overpriced gear is to check out Jottnar, no one will be wearing that.
