Look comparing what Reid did to what McCain did is rediculous. Reid got money for a new national park for future generations to see preserved fossils , and McCain sold out a beautiful and sacred area for a private corporation to profit from. But even with the loss of Queen Creek and the lands in Alaska the Lands portion of the bill was by far a net positive emviormentaly and is why the democrats and many environmental groups supported it as a whole . The democrats had one last chance to set a side land for a couple new national parks and hundreds of thousands of acres for conservation before the rupublicans take over congress. Let's face it the mine was going to happen regardless of party politics, that much money in copper is just not going to be left under ground untouched . It's just the world we live in. Let's just be glad that unlike most of the mining done in the world at least there will be some environmental regulation in the process , all be it small. |
