Hello all-

I've checked the route database, but am looking for any additional ideas. What are the closest rock and / or ice areas to Williamsport? Thanks!

Derek, I do not know of any areas that are not on Mountain Project already. I have been to Rock Run (maybe 15-20 mins North of Williamsport) a bit and really enjoy the bouldering and scenery. Blue Run Rocks is +/- 1 hour North of Williamsport and it offers some solid sport routes and a little bouldering.

I am not the most knowledgeable regarding Williamsport and the surrounding area. If you dont get the beta you're looking for PM me and Ill email people that may be helpful.

Derek, just passing through Williamsport? Or do you reside in the area?

Thanks for the reply. It looks as though I'll be visiting on occasion in the next 6 months to a year for work, and I'm curious about the area. I'm primarily interested in roped climbing on rock or ice, though I do like to boulder as well. It seems like there must be at least a few crags hidden away in them there woods...I've certainly heard talk about high quality sandstone and grit!

I think Mocanaqua is probably not too far away from you.
Also I hear there is some bouldering near williamsport, but don't know any details.

The sandstone and 80 grit Diabase is as good as anywhere. You will not be disappointed.

+1. The diabase is so, so, so appealing, so conducive to beautiful climbing movement and all-around delicious. I really enjoy climbing on that type of stone and I think you will also Derek if you make your way to a Diabase/grit area.

If you are wanting/needing a partner for roped rock of any type or wanting someone to boulder with, PM me and I'd be stoked to introduce you to some fun, quality (that's relative) Pennsylvania climbing.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
