Climbers needed for focus group on new product

Hey folks,

I am looking for up to three climbers to provide some information I need for an outdoor product I invented that will have purpose in rock climbing.

I can offer $75.00 to each participant, which will require a minimal time investment but will exercise your knowledge of rock climbing and adventure travel.

Some preference will be given to those climbers who are traveling through Red Rock and other western climbing destinations. Also, trad expertise is a must.

Each participant will sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement that will be fiercely enforced and be paid in cash. I am local to Las Vegas and Red Rock, will meet you in person in a public place of your choosing (RR campground / Dunkin' Donuts / Starbucks, etc.) and can demonstrate my legitimacy in a number of ways.

I am hoping to find interested parties this/next week and schedule times very soon after.

If interested, please contact me via my profile with the following information:

1. Name, of course
2. Climbing experience summary (include favorite places/routes)
3. If traveling, from/to where
4. Phone number and contact method preference

Thank you very much for your interest and I hope this leads to a product that will play an important role in your next climbing pursuit.

- Craig

I'll (probably) be willing to do it for free...

Typically I buy the gear I want to test with my own money. Test it and then decide whether I want to keep it; usually sold on Ebay, MP or to friends where I never get the full amount back, so this would be a win for me and for you.

Let me know..

I sent a PM about 15 mins ago. I'd test it for free.

I live in idaho but am more than willing to test it out for you. Ill do it for free if you could send the product. I climb, at this time of year, on granite and basalt. You can look at my profile for some of my experience. More than happy to help if you can get me the test product. let me know.

Thanks for the responses everyone. I have been looking them over. As you may know, creating this kind of feedback group, so to speak, is kind of like picking a jury. You want a decent cross section.

FYI, this wouldn't be any sort of gear you would be going home with. This is for early stage research for its viability. Prototypes are months out.

If there's any other questions you have, feel free to respond here or via PM.

Is three people really enough?
I realize

  • you may not have the budget for more (maybe cut the incentive to $50?, although a number said they would provide feedback for free)
  • you might have others lined up and you just need an additional three
  • you may have already conducted some consumer research and this is additional

It's just that on face value, three seems too small for a realistic focus group (which typically is 1-2 dozen for consumer products).

Marc, your last bullet.

It's more about "confirmation and assurance" than the product's market viability, which to date, has been met with enthusiasm. Of course ... consumer enthusiasm and the enthusiasm of potential business partners wanting to just get in on the ground floor of something are totally different animals.

We'll see.

This is a product for climbers, not a charity. The OP is inventing something because he feels there is a market for that product and wants to profit, which is great. Why would you do something for free that someone wanted to give you money for?

I will test it for the $75 as offered, but seeing as many people offered you free services, it removes the need for you to pay.

Apparently there is nothing to "test" - in a follow-up post the OP wrote:

Well I can't speak for the others but for me, I'd just be happy to help out. I already donate enough to charities....never considered my offer in that regard but I guess you can consider it my "charitable" demeanor.

Does that help you with the answer you asked?
Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
