Indian Creek Superbowl Campground visit from the Sheriff

This past Saturday night (November 29th), perhaps about 8 pm or so, Superbowl Campground at Indian Creek received a visit from a member of the San Juan County Sheriff’s department. His vehicle was parked at the bulletin board and then campsites were visited on foot. No flashlight – quietly approached camps in the dark – I am guessing a few were of our tribe were quite surprised. Not sure if anyone wants to share stories / if any busts were made. Be careful out there . . .

Twas a great weekend at the Creek. Sure, a bit crowded, but plenty of climbs to go around.

Must be a slow night in San Juan county (or perhaps every night is slow in those parts!?) if the sheriff has nothing else more pressing to attend to than sneaking around an isolated campground looking for "trouble".

Naaaa...Just creeksgiving, they know that's the busiest weekend of the year. Trying to keep order, limit litter, noise pollution etc. etc. Last year we drove down at 1 a.m. (Creeksgiving Wed.) and saw maybe 3 Sheriffs parked at the 211 turnoff.

On that note, what the hell was going on at the first cottonwoods campsite? All weekend there were loudspeakers blaring music and/or ridiculous raffles/awards via a microphone. I'm all about letting loose for Creeksgiving, but literally bringing an entire Dj setup (and presumably a generator to power said things) is incredibly disrespectful to everyone else trying to get some sleep. I could maybe, maybe understand doing it until like 10:00 PM, but on thanksgiving night, the music went on until early the next morning.

I saw something at the Beef Basin Rd bulletin board about "TFTV Creeksgiving". But google didn't give me any results for who "TFTV" is.

And not just music, but really, really bad, YOLO-style club music.

I would give just about anything to know who put that cluster together.

Interested to know if he tried to issue any citations. San Juan County Sheriff's office has no jurisdiction on BLM land in the county (including all the IC campgrounds). The BLM used to pay the Sheriff's office to do some law enforcement duties but that contract was terminated a few years ago.

Yeah, we had a very similar thing happen to us in Superbowl a couple years ago. We noticed them quickly and asked them if we could help them. There was some back and forth, and then they left after watching us from the bushes for a little while longer.

I actually had an encounter in Maple this Spring with one of the Fountain Green Police. He crept up real quiet and wanted to know if we had any drugs or alcohol. Told me he was just making his rounds. SO BEWARE IN UTAH. Not just The Creek.

Asking about alcohol is suspect, whats it to him if you've got some beers?

Technically you can't have alcohol in the maple campground, it's posted on the entrance board with all the rules and regs.

I've experienced the law in ZNP sneaking around in the bushes covertly spying on campers. It definitely has that creepy feel to it...

You can't drink beer in a campground???

What, do you have to walk outside of the campground area to drink your beer?

Probably best to do so behind the wheel of your moving vehicle. Just to be safe you know...

Yeah, he came by our site and told us our campfire guitar singalong was too inappropriate. He also had a comment for the empty whiskey bottle, but we got by without any issues, luckily

They started making rounds a few years back after a particularly wild creeksgiving. At creekster (Easter in the creek) I ran into them sneaking down the dark road without any lights at superbowl. I told them they were acting kinda creepy before I realized they were cops. Hehehe. At any rate, they didn't approach any campsites that night. They just lurked in the shadows watching...

People need to follow and film these cops shady practices!

Campsite crime rates at the creek are some of the highest in the nation. I feel much safer with LEO's undercover helping eliminate the possibility of Narco trafficking Navajos abducting me in my sleep. The only thing sad about us is we have to listen to your posts

We are all much safer with police around. Especially in Utah. sltrib.com/news/1842489-155…

Yes, but I wouldn't choose to become a cop.
