Chattanooga this weekend?

I'm in town and want to hit up some limestone. Anyone interested?

Find some limestone then hit me up.

Only limestone I know of is deep water soloing limestone at Nickajack lake (not that I know everything about the area). I'll leave that to the summer or the real men in winter.

Hmmmm....I guess I assumed the rock there would be the same as here. Regardless of rock type I'd still like tutu climb there

It's all good. We have sandstone the SE. The weather isn't looking very promising for next weekend. Pm me if you want and I can keep you in the loop if the weather changes.

You don't say.... I shouldn't ever mistake the rock that covers miles of a state only a handful of inches below the dirt to be elsewhere in a state I am unfamiliar with. The results are socially disastrous.

Not buying that excuse. A.) Not on a "spelunking" website...though there is plenty of that here as well. B.) You don't climb when in caves. C.) No one would ever mistake limestone underground for being limestone that one would travel to climb on. Your reasoning makes no sense.

There is a picture from a 60 second walk out my back door. Only 20 foot high or so. I have seen others along the highway about 30 feet out of the ground, not exposed because of road construction.

And if you're climbing underground it is a logical assumption you are in a cave. I can't fathom any other method of climbing underground than in a big ass cave. Please enlighten me if I an wrong.

I didn't travel here to climb, I travelled here to help rebuild a house for my family. Knowing that the ground has limestone bedrock inches below the surface, for dozens of miles in any direction, is important in the construction of a house, and a well, and an unimproved road.

Given the knowledge of exposed limestone bands, limestone bedrock for many miles, and a general ignorance of Tennessee geology as a whole, I think it was a safe assumption that 50 miles away there is exposed climbable limestone.

And my only resource for gathering information about climbing is traveling to the nearest town to get 4g cell reception. I'm not going to drive 30 minutes to see what kind of rock is in Chattanooga, because frankly that doesn't matter. climbing is climbing.

The well company that sounded for the well told us we are on about 40ft of limestone bedrock. And that is a small area at the edge of the water shed that the surrounding area dumps into. Plus it feels like limestone covered in years off dirt and moss.

Sounds like most of Chattanooga climbing to me! Make sure to tell your friends the rock here sucks!

TN has tons of limestone but the majority of it is underground. The closest limestone for climbing is up in Nashville. Personally I would stick to climbing the sandstone around Chattanooga, it's some of the best sandstone you will ever touch.
