I was thibking about adding a big ol' hex to my rack. considering i only want one for anchor building, directionals, and making clanky noises so everyone knows where im at at the crag. If you have or could have one big ol' hex for your rack which one would it be?
#9 BD hex is the perfect nut tool hammer and is a hand/small fist sized piece. Make the second carry and listen to it and you will hear when they are struggling too.
I carry a #10 Chouinard. Sometimes it is my Jesus piece, sometimes it is Mjolnir (ever have a really stuck piece and wish you had a hammer?) I can not tell you how often i use this thing, but i leave the ground, it is with me, even if just on my haul loop. And wired, not slung.
I have BD Hexes #1 to #10, with #6 through #10 being slung hexes. I like them. Before I had a lot of cams, they were my big pieces. They are very light, and I love the noise they make.
Thank said, I really don't use them that often. But they are dirt cheap (you can score a pre-slung set on ebay right now for next to nothing!), and they won't hamper you in any way.
And as mentioned, they make great hammers. Do it! (But I'm really partial to slung hexes in the bigger sizes, which BD doesn't sell any more).
Most blokes' hexes only go up to ten. But what if you need one louder? That's right, mine go up to eleven, for when I need that extra push over the cliff.
