Looking for El Salto guidebook recommendations
|
Anyone have recommendations on this? I'll be spending 4-5 weeks there so I'd like to get the best publication available. "The mexican rock climbing guidebook" by Oriol Anglada covers el salto, but its also $55. I also don't know how thorough it is. Anyone have experience here? Shall I just wait till I get there to buy one? Any beta would be great. Thanks!! |

I don't know how thorough the Anglada book is for El Salto, but I did look through the El Potrero Chico section in the book, and it seemed to be, if not complete, at least extensive enough that I didn't notice any holes in its listings. (I've been to EPC twice, for a total of 3 weeks. I've also updated much of the route database on thecrag.com for EPC, so I have a pretty good feel for what would/wouldn't be complete.) |

Thanks David. I heard "The Whole Enchilada" has a section on El Salto. But I don't think it will be as detailed as Angladas, but I'll continue to ask around. Like most international climbing destinations, I'm sure I will be able to buy a used one when I get there somehow. I appreciate the input on what you know of his book. |

Hey Derek as of now there is no complete guide book for the area. The main developer there has a very up to date topo of all the routes. I think you can find it on ulricrousseau.blogspot.com. Email him for it, or search his blog for el salto topo and you will find it. It's completely up to date with the new routes. Get psyched because el salto is some of the best sport climbing in north America and still relatively unknown about. Might see you down there as well. |

Very good to know. Thanks, and perhaps see you there this winter! |

It is mostly a side-note about El Salto, and also from quite a few years ago. Angladas is much more recent, so likely to have far more up-to-date info on El Salto. I'm not sure about used copies of the Angladas yet, it is quite a recent publication. But, you never know. |
