Description Suggest change

Yet another new area in the Jungle with exceptional vistas, seclusion, rock and routes! The bonus for this area are the short approaches.

Getting There Suggest change

Set your odometer at the "Upper Jungle"/"Upper Canopy" parking area and drive up hill and north for one mile passing cairns for various campsites on the right and the "Distant Drum Area" down chute, and it's campsite. Next you come to another cairn (wood) in yet another debris field which is a great campsite and the rap into Pangaea. Finally you reach the last cairn on the right where the road is left or northwest curving.  If you see a left spur road (USFS 1458) you have gone too far. The parking area is about 0.5 miles south of the 1458 junction. Park in the wood chip parking area near debris fields and take the casual trail east for approximately 100 meters. Here the trail meets the edge of the cliffs and forks into two down chutes. The north chute is dicey due to an abundance of loose talus but is short and has both fixed hardware and a fixed line to assist. This leads to routes on the cliff face as well as to a stand alone tower of about 110 feet in height, known as the "Togo Tower." There is a summit register on top wedged into the summit cairn complete with a pencil. As of 7/28/13 "Togo Tower" has four routes (and two projects at the 13 level) on it with potential for a couple more. The south fork and chute are pedestrian and lead to routes on the cliff face and a shorter second tower set very near the base of the cliff face. As of 7/28/13 there are four routes here on what is known as "The Dinka Pillar." Most likely "The Dinka Pillar" is tapped out for any more lines however there may be more to develop on the cliff face itself. The best news about this new area is two-fold: 1)The rock is stellar and 2)The approach from vehicle to your particular route is about 5 minutes. The trail that leads from the "Lower Jungle" parking area and terminates in the middle of "Pangaea" can not be engineered much further due to a huge and loose talus field. Therefore the two areas will not be connected from below.
