My buddy and I saw some Cowboys crushing the Squid in RMNP yesterday... We were shooting up Hallett in the snow for some fun. We kept on eye on it the entire time up the couloir and the Squid is looking like juicy kalamari right now. This storm should be a nice boost to the dry weather!

NE Gully of Thatchtop is in pretty well. P1 looks solid at WI4 straight.

Anybody had eyes on Hessie's Chimney near Eldora?

I'm curious about this as well but I haven't made it up there yet.

Jewell Lake is good there is space for about 4 lines. I thought I got a picture of the whole thing but I guess I didn't. Here's the only one that I have, this is the left side of the area.
Jewell.

Anybody heard anything from Redstone? I'm going to be in the area this coming weekend.

Yep, I was on Claim Jumper last Saturday (2014-11-22) and we had about 5 or 6 ice sticks the whole way. We didn't see much ice.

Andy Hansen wrote:All Mixed Up is, like others have said, good to go. The approach is loose snow over downed trees and talus. Not fun. The last pitch can go at WI3+ or solid 4 if you stay on the right side. Super hard ice out there today... with little to no threat of wind slab from above. Black Lake slabs also appear to be coming in but couldn't zoom my eyeballs all the way over there. Good temps today around 30F all day... little to no wind although it was forecast to be 30mph gusts.
Same deal today. Can't speak for risk of wind slabs from above since we only made it two pitches up, but the approach was totally safe even after all the recent snow. Also, despite predictions of 50 mph gusts, it was pretty calm all day.

Anybody been up to the Lake City backcountry zones? Wondering if things are forming up yet. Thanks,
Chris

The Redstone pillar is in, that's about it. Rifle looks pretty good but warm temps could change that.

Co Springs- I hiked into Ramona falls yesterday but it wasn't in. The Phantom is in thin but leadable.

Unlikely we will see Ramona in again any time soon. The stars and moons must align just right to even think about getting enough water down that face. When my partner and I did it last year, it was my first and his second time on it. His first was in the late 70's. Very, very rare opportunity. Plus, once The Broadmoor opens it up, forget it. Hully might become an issue as well.

Curious about Thatchtop NW Face. Has anyone been up there recently?

While I haven't been up to the "NW Face" I have been in the NE Gully (which is mislabeled on this site as NW Face) and there is plenty of ice. Direct start at WI4. Can't speak for the actual NW Face further up near Sky Pond.

Just watch out for the windslabs currently. A week of snow and howling winds.

Anyone know what Treasure Falls (Wolf Creek) is doing lately? I know it's a little early but…

Would be interested in establishing a contact in the Pagosa Springs area to get condition updates on that side of the pass…

Thanks.

Silverton update:

Eureka area: lots of snow! Makes for strenuous approaches (you'll need snowshoes or skis), avalanche worries (lots of whoomping), and deep post-holing between pitches.
Climbed Whore House Hose: 1st pitch OK, 2nd pitch mostly loose snow, 3rd pitch detached and snow covered, with open waterfall in center... worst conditions I've seen in years.
Stairway looks painful, with tons of snow on the ledges, and the 1st pitch looks melted out. No approach tracks.

South Mineral Creek: tried driving in but only made it 1.5 miles before turning back due to deepening snow and lack of tracks. Did not see any of the routes.

Any word on Ames Ice Hose?
Thanks.

Any information about if it's legal to climb the I-70 sickle in George town and if so where would you park for it?

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
