House and Barn boulders in Westford, MA?
This is just my opinion, but I would be comfortable hiking and climbing here until the owner tells us to stop. |
I agree. I spoke with some of the neighbors that were walking through and it didn't seem to be an issue from their perspective. |
heading there to check them out today if anyone is interested..4/19 around 1pmish |

Anyone live around Westford? I just moved to acton and want to explore more local erratics. I've done all the Ayer/sawmil/wachusett blocks I could find. It's time for more! Exploration anyone??? |
Sounds like you are pretty familiar with the area.. I live in littleton so I went out one day to check it out. When you get to the trail, instead of going to the two big ass boulders, there is a trail to the left. I took this trail and found a good size boulder and there was some chalk on it. One side of the boulder is pretty overhung and at least 10 feet tall. Seemed like a crimpy start with a big middle move. Any idea what/ how hard that thing is? |
Yeah that sounds right it looks/felt hard that's wayyy above my limit so I could not do the moves |
I've done most of the stuff out in The Sawmill before, but would love to clean off some other things on the house boulder. Black ops v10 on the overhang, used to go reasonably until a flat flake crimp snapper off. I hear it still goes...? |

Take a drive down Under Pin Hill Rd in Harvard. There's a rocky slope with some large talus and a few boulder-sized faces. I'm not a boulder-er so I can't say there's anything worth climbing but it's not far out of your way. |
There's a handful of stellar blocks strewn about the disc gold course at Fort Devens that I've been cleaning and climbing over the past couple years. Also check out the lacross field across from Orion Way in Westford. A few short but sweet routes right off the field |
what's the approach like to the boulders in devans/ is it worth it? I may be looking for some boulders once it is a little too cold for sport climbing |
Approach is super easy. Just walk the the trail that takes you through the back back 18 holes. There's 4 or 5 boulders between holes 1-4 as well as a rad egg shaped block uphill and to the right of hole 6. Hole 7 starts on top of an outcrop that has a few taller easy climbs but that's the one spot w/ broken glass. Totally worth checking out if you're local |
Awesome beta! |
deven's huh? I used to work in Shirley. Are there established problems? |
Where the heck is the lacrosse field near Orion Way? The only thing across the street on Tadmuck rd there is the apple orchard. |
Didn't realize there were 2 Orion Ways in Westford. The Lacross field is on 225 just after Fletcher Hill Ln, Orion Way is the name of the road right across the street. Sorry for the confusion man. |

Went to Devens today and hiked the whole disc golf course. I didn't find anything that looked like a climb. Did I miss something? |
disc golf? no white ball, no clubs>?..... just hippee's and frisbee's? |
I used to play that course when I still lived in Townsend and never saw anything worth climbing. The closest bouldering to Devens that I knew of is the Ayer boulders. |

I thought I was the only climber from Townsend. Drove by the boulders at lacross field on 225. Didnt have time to stop but 1 of the boulders looked large enough to have something fun on it. |

Check out this link, the hole maps for "The General" course show boulders on the holes... discgolfscene.com/courses/D… |
