I've got a pretty big noggin and the Black Diamond Half Dome fits well, not terribly expensive either.

Thanks, I'll check it out

Hey Tev,

I've got the same problem - big AND misshapen. I've had luck with the Petzl Meteor - got it a few years back, not sure about the most updated version. Most helmets perch high up on my dome.

+!

My mom still curses my head. I had the largest Mammut of some style for awhile. Never really fit. Or rather, fit just like yours. Got the larger size of the Half Dome recently. Fits great and is comfy. Can often find it at a good price, too.

Petzl Ecrin Roc. Too bad they are discontinued but you can still get them used or if you hard enough you can find them.

I know people with the CAMP helmet you have and they look exact like that on their heads as well. It's a terrible helmet.

Make sure the helmet is gopro compatible. All the really big-headed climbers I've met use one ; )

Darth Vader on the Bivy Ledge. This model has good coverage.

Grivel Salamander has an XL version. Adjustable from 58-66. It was the largest I found when researching XL helmet options.

The larger size of the Petzl Sirocco is one of the few helmets I can get into. Now that I've been wearing a helmet that weighs less than 6 ounces, I can't imagine wearing my older, heavier ones. Obviously, the price and the color are the drawbacks.

Grivel Salamander XL fits my oversized dome.

55 gal drum with a bunch of foam inside and eye cutouts? How big is your head? I wonder how well a modern military helmet would work.

I tried tons of helmets. They just all sat too high, even if they were big enough in diameter. Half dome didn't even come close (but they may have changed the model some since then). No way on other popular ones like the Petzl. I finally went with an Edelrid, and it is fine.

It isn't common. I found it in a Durango outdoor store when I was traveling. It is the only suspension type helmet that I've been able to wear. My previous helmet was a solid shell, lined with styrofoam and a liner. Those don't sit as high, but they tend to slide around.

I have a 7 3/4" head and the Petzl Meteor and Black Diamond Vector both fit well.

Bringing this thread back from the dead... I have a *VERY* large head (sadly) 65 cm circumference. Big enough that I've gone to bike stores before and they haven't been able to sell me a helmet, big enough that I've never in my life found an off the shelf hat that I could put on. I've used a BD vapor/vector in the past and with the size adjustment piece on the back ripped out on the M/L size, the helmet itself was a pretty tight friction fit on my head (with short hair I can wear it but it gives me a headache). Haven't had any luck elsewhere. For skiing I found that the Giro jackson XL helmet worked https://www.giro.com/p/jackson-mips-snow-helmet/200000001600000049.htm, although weirdly the Smith options that go to "67" cm don't fit me AT ALL. Anyways, does anyone have a helmet that has worked for those of us who are beyond the typical standards of "big heads" and into the freak of nature territory? Thanks in advance, I'd really like to find a comfortable option :(

Have a wider-than-average skull, and have been using the CAMP Titan helmet. Works for me and my wide head, but it's definitely the sort of helmet that a guide service would buy in bulk to loan out to clients.

I have the biggest PETZL Boreo and it just fits with the thing all the way out. Its the same helmet I wear as a zip line guide.

Interesting, I'll see if I can find one of these in person somewhere!

Have a look on this page: https://thesevereclimber.com/2016/10/14/helmets-big-heads-2/

I have a bug head and I have a BD Vision and I'm quite happy with that.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
