The 2014-2015 Colorado Ice Conditions Thread

Yeah the avy danger is probably what's most concerning for me after this week. |
|
Loch Vale area: Adding to Seth's post, we checked out the area on 11/9. Mixed Feelings still needs time to form and is not climbable yet. Mixed Feelings |

Spray, spray, spray..... :-) youtube.com/watch?v=nRma3bb…no offense, but your technique is super sketch. you are lucky that those bulges didn't just explode on you from those scary close tool placements. |

Does anybody know if Martha is in? Thinking about it for Friday or Saturday, but don't know if this week's weather will help or hurt... |

Sherman Route from the road.
Conditions are still a little lean in the Lake City area. The crux pitch of the Sherman Route is kind of delicate and difficult looking and I decided to leave it alone. The cold and moisture this week should bring things in better though. Colorado can almost always use some more moisture. For more detailed info check out: Colorado Climbing Blog |

To add another constructive criticism, you should learn how to stagger your tools. It would space your picks further apart and you'd take half as many swings. |

I was on Alexander's last Saturday and Martha was bone dry. I think this system will help things to form, but I doubt that it'll be pleasantly climbable for a wee bit still. By the way, Alexander's was a stepladder, so just go do that instead. You'll be much happier ;) |

Saw a dude on Lincoln put two tools in close like that and decked, shattered his pelvis from about 20ft up. Be careful... |

Thanks for the feedback! I'm still learning. |

Any word on Silverton ice? |

Low tonight of -10. I wonder if Silk Road has any chance of coming in. Though without a warm afternoon to thaw things out I find it unlikely. |

Silk Road needs a lot more snow than just a couple of inches to form... |

Trying to access all you crazy Colorado ice-fiends. |

A resounding recommendation for Ivan's work. I have one of his paintings and it is incredible! He somehow is able to paint what a photo could never provide, that feeling of movement and a kind of three-dimensional quality to the landscape. His paintings give life to what would otherwise only be a plain static photo. |

Jeez Steve... thanks! |
