Let's see here, wooden blocks for pro, concrete crack, clearly inexperienced at climbing cracks, leading, and everything else. Oh, and he "knew it was going to rip," yet he still climbed on it. Love it. YouTube video of the year!

Looks like perfect hands. Why use solid jams when you can just Gaston? The blood on the hand was a nice touch, too.

too bad he didnt take the time to explain the pro first.

Crack climbing is the same as face climbing, right?

Famous last words from the clueless..."I knew that thing was going to RIP"!

If anyone were to stop sponsoring soloists for image and influence on clients, I'd vote for GoPro....

For the record, I'm not advocating that anyone drop soloists as sponsors. It's silly.

So, his 'pro' was just a sling around a wooden block? If so, how was it not going to rip?

Hilarious, but not us Climbing with Science of Stupid

As a side note, wish GoPros were being used when some of the famous climbers were developing their skills. I was reading "Trad Climber's Bible", a few of stories would've been well served by video footage

I speculate that guy was in the scary place where you know enough to be overconfident and a hazard to your own health. I've been to that place and I'm scared to go back.

At least the wood block had adhesive backed sand paper on it. 180 grit probably.

What's the point of good pro when using rope rated at 20 pounds working load. Using a #1 BD cam would have made him look even dumber.

Thank you so much for posting that. It made my day. The gastons, the gear, the insightful comments, the fact that they're climbing a building. This video had it all. Thanks again.

I am trying to figure out how this is supposed to provide any protection at all? Is there an angled shim wedged along the side being hidden by the sling?

What the ?

Do you suppose there is a correlation between the advent of the Go Pro and being on your parent's health care plan until you are 26?

Wait. Did they go up on that top rope to pre-place those "bomber" pieces of pro?
The hilarity continues.

Even more interesting is they used an EDK to tie those slings, and there is absolutely zero tail.
Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
