I suppose not. In time you will stop feeling like a jerk for doing the right thing. Stay true to your values even when life rattles your up a bit. And don't forget to have fun while you're at it.
I owe nothing to noone and it is a great feeling, sad so many people rather be owned by a bank and have the newest fad toy than have less and being free. Yes i know i am far from normal, most of the people i work with say i am not American. I guess i consider that a good thing.

95% of our society are slaves, it is really sad.

Not everyone does stuff to make themself feel good, plenty of people have sacrificed their life for something they believe in. Being killed doesn't make you feel good.

PS: I am a diabetic and if they ever find a cure for it I will be quitting my job and living in a tent for the rest of my life. I have calculated it and even being in my 20s I have enough to stretch what I have for the rest of my life

Do you think that's bad? I live in a world with both happiness and sadness. I accept both.

There is no self. Make the self happy means make nothing happy. You are trying to appease heavily conditioned patterns of thinking and nothing else.

I accept my emotions as well, it’s part of being human. The question is why would you choose to be unhappy. Some people are happy when the Broncos win. That’s great for them but if they don’t win then they are not happy. They may become very unhappy when they lose. If you like watching football why would you create a situation where you are bound to be unhappy sometimes? Why would you want your emotional state dependent on a situation?

Emotions are instigated by thoughts. In the mind dominated state we all find ourselves in, thinking is compulsive. It almost never stops and usually doesn’t really have anything to do with what is happening at the current moment. The emotions will follow the thinking. As the saying goes if you are depressed you are living in the past, if you are anxious you are living in the future, if you are at peace you are living in the current moment.

There is another state we can live in, a state of presence. When truly present the compulsive thinking stops. The mind works as the tool it is designed for. We can experience life as it is, without thoughts, judgments and fears. I believe many people here unknowingly experience this at times.

For me the most obvious time is when I’m onsight climbing at my limit and I am totally focused. There is no voice in my head. No thoughts about bills to pay or someone that’s pissing me off. No fear, just action. If I fall it is completely unexpected. If I make it, afterwards, I am very aware of a strong sensation. It feels good to be alive. It feels different than typical emotions. It is the feeling of the raw energies of life flowing through me. We are, after all, beings of pure energy.

I think most people are heavily burdened by their compulsive thinking. They do stuff to escape it even if they are not aware. Like drinking, drugs, physical activities or listening to music all the time.

It's possible to feel bad and good in different ways from the same action and at the same time. For example, you see some blonde bitch out the Burger King worker because he added pickles on her burger. While she is on the way out, you stand up and accidentally trip her. You feel bad for tripping her, but you also know she was just being an ass and feel good that karma, or whatever, caught up to her, thus two opposing feelings simultaneously.

Not really what I am talking about, I don't think it can be described in words. You either know it or you don't.

So living in a tent with no debt? You plan on a family? That might take a couple bucks.

I have or have had every newest fad toy and I have more free time than you.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Haha.. This story reminds of the time a young girl asked my friends to control their kids at the gym. Their little girls were running around and and yelling like kids do. My friends reacted like the Mom in the story but no punches. Nobody got hurt and I got a good laugh!

The current state of research on emotion is quite a bit more complicated than highly optimistic, feel-good mumbo jumbo.

One thing seems pretty certain though: The nervous system didn't evolve to make us feel "happy" all the time, it evolved based on what aided survival.

Having a family and having fancy things is not everyone's idea of happiness or purpose of life.

Yep. Some of us just need something to climb and enough time for slacking off.

I was only pointing out that not everyone that has extra money works their life away.

Cos you have people working for your fat ass, Bill. That's why you have the time, and money, to frolic in low grade ice and self indulge in every new toy that comes out on the market. You, Bill, kinda figured it out, you see. Just make sure your accountant does not start embezzling while you are out there planning your next climbing trip. I respect people like you. Just don't get too greedy.

That's some evil shit , KN. Why can't people just give each other a break. Darn.
Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
