Semicolons in comment previews

...are displayed as @SEMICOLON -- you guys should probably just URL-encode and decode all user-inputted text rather than a proprietary encoding format..

Oh, we made plenty of mistakes 9 years ago when initially coding the site... some are easy to fix and others, such as magic identifiers that are buried in all kinds of text fields all over the place, are better left alone.

When I put a semicolon, like this ; and then click preview, it looks normal to me. But obviously you saw it... can you take a screenshot so I can see exactly where it happens?

Yeah, I can imagine the code rot over nine years..yikes! If you go to my profile page, scroll down to the bottom, and look at the first comment, you can see it there.

i've noticed this elsewhere as well

Look at the one of the last thumbnails... "Bob Culp on the dihedral pitch, Super Slab@SEMICOL..."

Found another somewhat related issue here:

mountainproject.com/v/the-f…

look at the preview pictures, a couple are formatted oddly, which is probably due to the anchor tags that are used in the descriptions
