Trango crag pack?

Looking for a haul-bag style crag bag without having it be so heavy and burly for hauling. Happens that Trango is now making one.

Has anyone used it? Thoughts? Any other competing products from other manufacturers?

I have this pack, which I don't haul, but it has three haul loops on it and is quite burly. Best cragging pack I've owned (but the first that is "haul bag-ish")

I'm looking at this. Tired up top loading. This one has a full length zipper to completely open up.

I have two gorge packs for my school and one for personal use. These bags are bomber for sure!

I have the Trango crag pack and I absolutely love it!
I just did a red rocks trip and used it for long burly approaches
to the brownstone wall, to rainbow wall and into black velvet. It carries
amazingly well and held up great with scrambling and through rough
terrain. It's not made for hauling but the fabric has been really abrasion
resistant and durable.
The features that I like most: 1) it stands up by itself and is super easy to
load. 2) it holds a lot of stuff and a rope rack, clothing, helmet etc... Fits
without any fuss. 3) nice shoe pocket on the outside so my shoes air out
and don't get crushed and take up room in the pack 4) comfortable
suspension system
This pack is awesome, I would buy one without reservation!

The MistyMountain Gorge looks like a good pack. I can see how top loading could get annoying after a while. But I'm sick of all the unnecessary pockets of a typical backpacking pack, comfortable as it is.

How's the comfort level on the MM Gorge?

Comfort is awesome on the gorge pack. I have no complaints.

Haven't taken it outside yet but I really like it's layout and setup. The pre-release video really spoke to me with things like the external shoe and guidebook pockets. Things I've wanted before.

Only complaint right now is small accessory pocket lacks a key clip. Everything else I like about it and the price is hard to beat.

I had a smaller Metolius Haul Bag and found it TOO burly for crag use. The Trango weight is ideal IMO

my $0.02

just buy a haul bag. it will be cheaper, more durable, usable for more things, and retain its value better.

if you really want to attach things to the outside of the haul bag-- get small accessory bags, and strap those to the haul bag.

haul bags are horrible to carry for long distance. I can't imagine a 2-3 hour approach with a haul bag on my back. I would go with something that is actually made to be carried on your back, not hauled up the side of a wall.

Agreed. I have a Grivel haul bag I got for a steal that I use as a cragging bag. It's fantastic for hiking 5-10 minutes to a crag but beyond that it kind of sucks. I also had to have my second climb with it on their back one time. I felt sorry for them.

Ditto on the haul bags are too hard to carry longer distances. They suck. The Misty Mountain is very comfortable, but not large enough. The Cilogear 65L Hauly wins on every count that's important in my view.

Comfort.
