Vandalism on North Table

If you've been up to NTM lately ('tis the season) You may have noticed the lovely new orange artwork! This was especially fun to experience with our 3 boys (aged 6, 8, 11). Does anyone have more information on this, is there anything in the works to clean it up? Would anyone want to spend a day cleaning it with us? I Have no idea how one goes about ridding rocks of such markings, but I'd be interested in learning how. It's a good thing the "artists" were too lazy to make it all the way up to the cliff so the Luben memorial was left unscathed.

cheers.

They make graffiti remover. I think they sell it at Home Depot. Might work.

This stuff worked well for me when someone spray painted my car... not sure how it'll work on rock though.

Haven't seen it. A photo might enlighten us as to the size/scale/nature of the stuff.

So this happened almost month ago, iirc. Someone had already tried to fix it: by painting over much of it. There were some marks still left on the trail that forks to the upper lot.

I was there on a Tuesday and they weren't there and the following Sunday they were, I think. I know they had been partially repaired two weeks ago this last Sunday.

Is that still it? Or did these jerks come back? It was an insane amount of neon-orange grafitti. Originally it was probably more than a dozen rocks and a couple signs. The patch job brought it down to maybe three or four?

Jerks. I hates them.

Sorry I don't have photos, I wonder if painting over is the right solution. Next time I am up there I'll make an assessment, if anyone can take some pics of whatever is left and the patch job let me know. There was a bunch of 420's and phalluses and peace signs in bright neon orange place on probably 20 rocks along the trail. Hard to explain to kids why someone would do such a thing. I have some time off over thanksgiving week and would be happy to spend a day scrubbing the rocks if anyone is interested in participating. The land is owned by Jeffco open space as far as I know. Not sure if they peruse these forums and would be able to comment.

Out of curiosity, was any of the spray paint on rocks that we climb? Or just boulders on the approach trail?

If it's the latter, I mean, do whatever, scrubbing will take way too long harsher chemicals will bleach out the rock. Not a lot of great options. Artistic painting over is probably preferable.

If it's the former, then tread lightly, at least try to contact the first ascentionist, even if you're doing the right thing (which you are), some people get pissy about folks even looking at the rock on a route wrong. Not to discourage you. But just talk to people, nothing worse than having people upset with you because you didn't kiss the right ass before being a Good Samaritan

It was all on the approach trail. It stopped well short of the rock. The stoners were too lazy to actually hike up the whole way. (And I'm not making unwarranted assumptions: the graffiti made it clear that the jerks that did this were stoners.)

Yeah, I think your best option is to contact Jeffco Open Spaces, tell them you want to volunteer to help remove/paint over the grafitti, and ask if they have any rules for how to go about it.

I'm down to help too, send me a PM if you end up going out to clean them up

Landscaping guys used it on the boulders they marked for delivery and seems to work like a charm. Would definitely heed the contact precautions (gloves, googles, etc.)

No doubt related to the brainiacs who decorated the Dark Side in Morrison.

I've not used it personally but Elephant Snot comes highly recommended for serious paint removal from rocks.

Still no photos of this crap? Do we have our own narcissistic Instagram artist? Or is this just more ho hum tagging?
