I've been invited to Puerto Rico for a vacation. What's the climbing like there? A short search shows a little but wondering if anyone who has been there and done that and has any advice?

Bayamon 2 (Enrique Monagas) is a fun single-pitch sport crag, only 20 minutes (30 including the walk) from San Juan. Ciales and Rosario are nice, too, but not as frequented, being farther from the population center. Those are the only crags I've been to. There are others, like Cayey, and newer, smaller ones on the South Side, but for getting your hands on high-quality jungle limestone, Bayamon will more than suffice.

Have fun!

Hey! I live in Puerto Rico and I'm DYING TO go climbing again! I had all my big wall and everything of my gear over $4K bux worth, lost in the mail when I moved here. I had enough stuff to do anything and now I got nuthin to climb with. I've done Spaceshot in Zion, Long trad routes in Yosemite for 4 years and I'm 36 years old now. I'm very safe and have done a bit of sport climbing back in Thailand. If you can show up with draws and a spare harness or any spare gear, I'd speak all the spanish you need, drive you around in my super fly landrover and promise to be feckin RAD! So my name is Christopher Mellen and you can see more of me here: facebook.com/chris.mellen.71 I'll climb with anybody who is safe and can give a soft catch. I might be doing a bit of falling as I haven't been out in a while. I'd even pick you up at the airport in the rover and see if I have any friends available for a place to stay. I live in Vieques, google that for sure. I own a hotel here, a foodtruck and am starting a tour company. If all goes well and if you wanna come camp in my yard and go to the NICEST beaches anywhere in the USA.. lemme know. THanks! ANd ya Monagas park is behind the Goya factory in Bayamon. look on PUerto rico daytrips.com and look up parque enrique monagas there's a bunch of info and lots of waterfalls and jungle hikes for rest days! If that don't sound good.. ya better get to bouldering on yer own! HA! Bless up!

Chris - Thanks for the great offer! I'll be getting back to you after I get some more detailed plans made up. There will be a fairly large group of us but I'm sure they wouldn't mind hooking up with a local for some routes.

I've been looking through the guidebooks - this has to be some of the strangest looking rock I've ever seen. Looks like melted wax or something - beautiful stuff - kind of what rock in the caves I have been in looks like. Looks a little different to climb - gonna be fun!

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
