Any advice on some good all round technical axes? I'm mainly looking at the Petzll Quarks or the Camp X-All mountains. Most likely going to be in Ouray this winter for a bit but at best will be climbing WI3. I'd like them for technical mountaineering and some casual vertical ice climbing. Can any one shed give some reviews/advice/comparisons?

Thanks!!!

X-All Mountain will make you happy.

Try them out (and every other tool you can get your hands on) if you can before buying. Everyone has slightly different preferences. That being said, they're both really good tools, and you'd probably be happy with either.

Plenty of other tools for similar uses that are out there also. BD Cobras and Vipers, Grivel Quantum Tech, DMM Apex. . .

For WI3 in ouray (on TR? probably), you will be happy with anything you choose.

Pick a tool that will fit your needs outside of the park or something that will let you grow into the tool in time.

If alpine is your goal, get a tool suited for that. If scratching rock is your goal, get a tool for that. They all climb soft WI3 really well.

Sorry I don't have any suggestions. I've got one-off weird tools that I like so much I haven't shopped or even browsed the market in years.

Thanks! I think I might be going with x-all mountains! I'd love to try alot out but in Ohio the only outfitters we have are BD only and have little in the way of aggressive axes.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
