R1 sizing vs other Patagonia products
|
For some time now I've been thinking about getting one for winter sport climbing (20-40 F), R1 as base layer plus down jacket when belaying. As I'm from europe and can't try for a proper sizing I've looked up some comments on various US stores. Most of the comments suggest M/L, what do you think? |

I wear an R1 in a LARGE - Not super snug but that's how Iike it. Typically a Large in all Patat tops. |

I can't totally give you all the advice, but I think Large would be the way to go. I am 6', 38"chest, 32" waist, and a +4" wingspan and the large fits me well. It'd be a little tighter in the chest for you which would be fine given your application as a base layer. I do believe the md would be too small. |

Get a Large. The R1 products are slim fit as opposed to regular fit, which makes a difference. |

Finally got my R1 Large as adviced. I could fit my down jacket under it, so not very happy about that :( The chest is maybe 2" to big and waist waaay too big. |

Note to myself if you want snug fit in patagonia always go with Medium.Agreed. I got an R1 in a large. It its everywhere but ended up being too long (thinking about hemming it). I also own the piton hoody in a large, and it has a much tighter fit and feels more like a medium. Morale is always try the jackets on before you buy them. |

I'm not sure any company makes 2 garments in a row that are the same size - one XL fits great, the next time I need a 2XL and it's tight. For things that cost as much as they do - I think we should be able to at least have consistent sizing within the size model item. And no 2 companies sizing is even close to the same. This companies are baggy for the size - the next one has the armpits too tight - then the forearms are too small etc. In some ways it's good if you live someplace you can try on all the different items to find the best fit - but God help the rest of us. |

It's a real crap shoot mail ordering stuff - I really feel for someone like the OP overseas trying to buy the stuff by American companies.Yup shoes are just a shot in the dark, but I usually buy those them locally, order 2 pairs 0.5 size apart and return one that doesn't fit plus they are usually cheaper here as are ropes, everything else is at least +30%. I'll never understand this philosophy 1 USD ≠ 1 EUR :(. If I can get my gear cheaper I will, sorry I'm not a patriot especially when it's all made in China anyway and seller gets a bigger cut than manufacturer. Recently I've found this shoe sizing table on Rockrun and it's pretty accurate most of the time. |

I'm 6'3" 255, 37" arms, 56"chest 32" inseam and 36" waist. The Northwall pants fit great. The Cap 1 is my favorite base layer! The shirts are plenty long enough. It seems all XXL is sized for short fat people not tall fat people. I find that MHW, TNF, Rab Marmot XXL work well. Mammut and Arcteryx have different XXL sizing depending on the model. Buying gear is easy at my size.. XXL or nothing. |
