Finding them over a full-time dirtbagging trip is challenging as well. I started my first trip like most do, trying to figure out what places I want to go to in what months. Now I plan my trips, in part, based on where I know I can find a partner.

I always thought that I would be able to crank 7-days a week on a climbing trip. Well I was half right, I can, but not necessarily always with a partner.... The best option is to have a partner that comes on the trip with you, because finding them during the trip is far more difficult. By far and large the worst part of a trip is partner finding, especially if I want to do some long, hard obscure route. It's especially hard to find a partner for that unless I am in Yosemite.

ah the east coast....the place where skateboarding is illegal...no need to be angry about climbing partners....if ever there was a place that lacks climbing unity (or any unity) its nyc. its good if you like museums, theatre, and (illegal)drugs!i would leave asap! i learned to climb out there and would rather die by fire than move back. climbers can be as moody as the weather......hard to find.......i would get the hell out of nyc quick before winter hits that dump. head west.....way more unity even though its all kind of a joke. the people are way nicer out here.oh and it is not always sunny in philadelphia!!!in fact it is depressingly gray, polluted, closed minded, politically prehistoric.......good old commonwealths.......they probably are still hunting for witches out there. i would climb with you but no where near nyc.!oh its a little harder for a dude......if you are a young ,cute, female, your chances will be alot easier.i love when those types give advice....to climb in the gunks for the day"how much is that cost theses days.....you will need a cardboard sighn when you climb there because you will be broke from paying to climb at the mohonk prerserve....

I recommend gyms. Not just climbing gyms. If you belong to a fit center chance are there are a few people there who would be willing to try climbing at least once. Your workplace is another good resource. Start telling people your weekend adventure stories and I will guarantee at least one couch potato rolling out to give you a gri belay just to say he/she did it...at least once, but hey, it's the numbers game. Start a meet up group and name it something like "Beers after Rocks" someone will bite in! Recruit your gf to go at least once a week if she is really not into it. If no gf bring your dates to crags and gyms while giving them a crash course on gri. If there is a will there is a way. Even in NYC.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
