advice for newcomers?

I'll be in Moab this November and would LOVE to swing a climbing trip to the Creek.
Unfortunately I've never been, and I don't have a rack.

Whats the attitude like towards newcomers?
Are there special gifts I should bear, or skills to demonstrate, in order to land a climbing partner?

I would feel honored just to follow on a couple classics.

Hitching rides on topropes is easy. Bring beer. There are no face holds so make sure you know how to jam so you don't flail too badly.

Bring a big backpack to carry a rope, a rack and a six-pack up to the crag. Don't show up with a daypack.

Yeah, you haul the rack and rope up to the crag, I will hang all the ropes you can handle and if you have a high clearance 4x4 even better.
Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
