Funny, I totally predicted that a future source of income for climbers would be rescuing people's drones from national parks!!

Good. You're lucky you weren't caught because it's illegal to fly drones
in National Parks in the US. Maybe I should forward this to the NPS
and they can follow up and prosecute you.

Really guys? All the hate for someone who it seems isn't a local and didn't know the legality of drones in national parks?

Do you really try and read legalese in your non-native language every time you visit another country? Now you should do your best to follow the law wherever you are but I think this warrants a little slack.

FWIW maybe this will derail my point but while I think you should follow the law I think the NPS drone ban is stupid and on par with banning all climbing because it can be dangerous and they don't want to deal with the hassle.

Daniel Rich either doesn't get it or he is a government agent.
We don't want to be spied on!
Or have drones crash into us while we are climbing!

For all you native english speakers here, did you somehow miss that he's already been fined? He's paid for his crimes against humanity and nature. Now he just wants his quadcopter back.

I'm not sure that climbers are allowed to set up rappels off the rim wherever they want, it'd have to be rescued under the cover of night I believe.

I don't know DRich
He seems to at least write fairly decent english. Better than I could read/write/speak the native language of any foreign country I've been to, and I've never been issued a ticket. It's common sense, You don't need to speak english to realize how intrusive drones are.
If we're going to ban climbing because it's dangerous then maybe we should ban cars too? And backpacking, one time I rolled an ankle with a pack on, it was epic.

Funny i predicted Timur signed up on MP within the last week and doesn't know the amount flying toy hate that goes on round here.

The legalities, foreign visitor, language barriers aside looking at Google maps the area looks to be reasonably accessible by foot without specialized gear. So I am not personally seeing a retrieval issue by the owner other than not being very resourceful.

Wait I thought everyone tried to fly them as close to other climbers as possible for fun? I have mine setup to try to drop rocks into other people's chalk bags.

I didn't know it was illegal.
You don't have signs of what not to do, such as Singapore, Japan, Europe, even in Russia there are many signs that you cannot do! If i see sign "no flying drones" i never fly here.
Come to us in Russia and you will see real kind and good people which will always help
All that I have seen on this forum anger and hate. I paid the fine and just trying to get my quadrocopter back.I did not break anything and did not want to hurt anyone!
I flew away from the people, observing safety

How can he not understand ? It ain't personal. Drones they are like big nosey mosquitoes that not only see what they shouldn't but record it. Like a mosquito they should be swatted.

I went looking for the law on drones and there doesn't seem to be much continuity across states etc. It's pretty much a no mans land right now but it appears congress is supposed to address it "before long" - whatever that means :). But there does seem to be a lot of legitimate questions that need answered as regards safety (can't fly one over the airport etc) and privacy - taking photos or video of people sunbathing in their back yard etc as examples. It will be interesting. As with most things its not so much that the technology itself is bad but the ways in which people can (and no doubt will) abuse them.

RC toys have been around for decades... these new toys are nothing different. Its just with the militar/police are using them so NOW they are now a problem for civilians.
