Rogers Rock access once the campground is closed
|
RR Campground closed on Oct 5th this year. How would one best access (via canoe/kayak) the slab now? I imagine the campground roads are no longer vehicle-passable. Maybe park at the entrance and wheel the boat down to the beach? |

I'd contact a Ranger to be sure, but I'm still planning to do it this year and my understanding was it's not gated (closed). In fact, I'm certain the road used to be open and plowed into the winter, but I haven't confirmed this for some time. |

I'm quite certain I've used the boat launch when the campground was closed |

Interested to hear the answer on this. . . |

After the campground closes, there is still road access down to the boat launch. That said, there is limited winter access once the snow arrives. Late fall, and early spring, are my favorite time to visit the Rogers Rock cliff and boulders: it's quiet, not too hot, and FREE! |

Lake george is very quiet this year. I was in the narrows just last weekend. Paddled on a beautiful sunny Sunday afternoon and only had 4 boats pass me over 5 miles and 3 of them slowed to no wake speed to pass me!! I do like that the islands closed after Labor Day that opens the islands to free camping before Columbus Day! So enjoy the great solitude that can be had at this time of year. |

I am having a trouble finding a canoe to rent for this Sunday 10/19. All the places I have called say they are closed for the season or I just get a busy signal. Any suggestions on finding a canoe? Anyone have one that I can rent I can pay with beer or money. I am an Eagle Scout, was an EMT and have a lot of experience boating in New England and Alaska. However, I live in NYC and a canoe does not fit in my apartment. |
