This may sound a bit pathetic, but does anyone know if there is descent cell phone coverage (Verizon in particular) in Castle Valley? I'm on call for a while at work, but I only have to be able to answer the phone. I want to head down and do Fine Jade and Jah Man, but can only go if I get cell reception. And yes, I am occasionally that guy answering his phone at the crag. Thanks

You have to drive down to the river and turn up river to the first take out. You'll barely get reception there.

It's better near Fisher Towers.

first off, you should really stop planning trips around cell reception. second, I have verizon, and live maybe five miles up from Castleton Tower. Sometimes I can call out, sometimes I can't. I can always send and receive texts, and check voicemail, though.

Thanks for the info, looks like I'll have to pass on this trip. As I mentioned before, I'm on call for work. So no cell service means I can't go. So in the future, should I just not try to go anywhere when I'm on call, and just sit in my living room?

You'll get cell reception at the base of Castleton Tower (actually starting about halfway up the talus cone), but below that, verizon is pretty spotty at best. Bivying under Castleton was surreal, especially since I'd never called my girlfriend to say goodnight during a bivy.
