Hi there.

Me and a buddy have had a trip to the Red planned for months, leaving tomorrow from CO and spending the weekend through Monday. Unfortunately- the weather looks SHITTY! Any tips on camping and climbing at the red on a super rainy weekend?

Where is good covered camping or a good place to stay inside that is inexpensive and potentially still available right now.?

What crags should we think about hitting up in the rain? I know the guidebook has some suggestions but wanted to hear from the community that knows the place well.

What are good non climbing activities if all else fails? Bourbon drinking? Horse Races? Caves? help me out here!

I spent a week there this summer. It rained pretty hard everyday, and that didn't stop me from getting out. I think I took one rest day, and that was because I was pumped, not wet. You'll be fine. Have fun

muir valley has a lot that stays dry, everyone says to go to Bruise Bro's, but the trees seem to splash water off back onto the wall, I climbed on a wet day on great arch and got up several really high quality routes that were completely dry.

Lago Linda's has some covered camping and generally has more areas to hang out in that are dry than does Miguel's. But you don't have the Miguel's experience. On the plus side Lagos is close to the PMRP

This weekend is also the rocktobeter fest, which draws a crowd. I'm not sure if you had planned it that way. Coupled with the continuous rain I'm not sure that there are going to be dry routes that will be open to get on.

did not plan it that way... hopefully weather scares people away? I actually have no idea what rocktoberfest means, other than crowds.

and parties. lots of parties

Have fun!

I was there last week and it was colder than I expected. Awesome sending weather.

If you want to go to Torrent, you have to get up at 6AM and register your car on their site. You also have to fill out an electronic waiver. They limit the number of climbers and the days that you can climb (thurs-Sat).

PMRP is a great place to go. So many fun routes for all levels but make sure you have a 4 wheel drive vehicle to make it there. Muir Valley has many dry routes but it draws many crowds and around this time will be pretty crazy.
I would suggest camping at Land of the Arches. I've stayed there many times and it's typically very quiet and chill. You can set up a sleeping bag on a pad inside it's pretty nice. And, super cheap.
You can also PM me if you want directions to an AMAZING cave system in the northern gorge.
Have fun!

we did PMRP with a regular rental car. No problems navigating the roads.

Thanks Y'all. Looking online it says that I have to be staying at the Torrent falls B&B to climb there- is that not true? WOuld it make sense to contact the B&B ahead of the trip?

That is true, but they also open up like 3 car spots per day first come first served. I think the online form opens at 6 am each day and it is pretty much gone by 6:01. Staying there is a sure way to ensure you have access to the Torrent Falls area.

Unless you are going up to the parking lot of the gallery, playground, etc. After all the continuous rain I would be a little sketched to take a regular car up and down those hills. Plus there is a hole the size of a swimming pool by the wide turn on top of the hill. If you were to fall in there, I'm not sure a car could get out without 4 wheel drive.

Miller fork might be an option but I don't know if there are good spots on rainy days.

You can easily drive to the Chocolate Factory parking or Drive-by parking areas with a passenger car. Sore Heel parking area might require 4WD, but you can hike in from the Chocolate Factory parking area.

If you go to redriverclimbing.com and then the online guide book each route is labeled whether it stays dry in the rain or not. It also has a lot of routes not in the guide book yet.

Land of the Arches has a large indoor area and is $5/night. Miguels is going be an absolute shit show this weekend. Think a college frat party just with climber bros.

The Red is the only place I have climbed with so many wet weather climbing options.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
