unobtrusive place to climb with a group
You should try this website...its got pretty good beta for Parley's: |
I would not suggest Penitentiary because the approach slope has the potential for rolling something down on someone. My suggestion would be Slips, Dogwood, Geezer, or Parley's. All easy access, parking, climbing. |
I remember the routes on Parleys as pretty straight forward. "Up in a flash" is a fun 5.8. Seems ideal for teenagers. Have fun! |

The more you say that you have no idea where dogwood and the slips are the less I believe you. |
You say Reservoir Ridge might be too easy, but I think its right up your alley for your group (and it has more than two routes). Plus you can spot other routes from there on the main storm mountain to see if and when they are free. I've always found it to be a lot less busy than Dogwood, the Slips or Challenge, and a lot less of a grunt than Mule Hollow. |

Too cool for school slab I suggest, can't give directions, its super secret |

I think we passed Dogwood but I can't be certain. In the end, the weather and group dynamics led us to Parley's. I'd never been and while the rock was amazing as advertised, it had all of the freeway ambiance as I always imagined. The wind picked up and started howling across all those shorts wearing teenager legs, igniting a shiver-fest. I almost felt guilty for pulling out the shell as we belay-slaved everyone. Seemed like October. |

Fun thread. I can't imagine you felt too bad about your kids' noise for the other party, since the howling from the semis downshifting probably drowned it all out anyway. Nothing more relaxing than a 120 decibel atmosphere above an interstate in a rocky, narrow canyon! |
