Help me help poor dirtbag climbers who own dogs in Colorado.

Lately I've noticed a whole lot of climbers bringing their dogs to the crag without leashes and then letting them run around all over peoples stuff and generally be annoying. Now I like to assume the best about people. So instead of assuming these dog owners are irresponsible self-centered people who have no respect for others, I'm going to assume that they are just poor dirtbag climbers who can't afford leashes.

Therefore I'm trying to collect as much tat as possible so I can make some homemade leashes to help these people out. Every time I see someone at the crag without a leash I'll just politely hand them one. Anybody got some extra tat they can spare?

By the way kudos to all those dog owners who manage to come up with the money to buy a leash and actually use it. I appreciate it (and I'm sure I'm not the only one).

A thinly-veiled "Dogs at Crags" thread. Yeah, we haven't had this subject for about six months. Carry on.

Can I girth hitch a sling to my dog or is it better practice to clip in? And if so is a non-locker sufficient?

Excellent question! This is where a PAS and a Valium ("doggie downers") come in handy.

I appreciate your efforts and your attitudes on the subject. I wouldn't personally make the effort, I also don't row upriver. Just lazy I guess.

Our dogs tried rock climbing with us a couple of times. But they got bored and wanted to go wander around, then they wined because they were tied up and couldn't go wander around. Even after we built an anchor and set them up on a ledge tied into their harnesses they still complained. We definitely have to keep Mocha within arms reach. She wants to prove to every dog that comes along that she is the supreme ruler, if the other dog instantly backs down she is fine, other wise she really get's after them. Chihuahua's have such attitude.

Then Mocha pushed Bandit off a ledge, they were not tied in because we were climbing out of a valley and leap frogging large shelves. Set them up one level and climb to them. They always waited patently for us to get there, no other choice, but this time Mocha got excited, did a 360 and hip bumped Bandit who had just peered over the edge to see where his momma was. DW caught Bandit by the tail and one leg. He is normally pretty wimpy and screams like a little girl whenever he is hurt, on the this occasion he didn't make a peep.

They now stay home when we climb.

Isn't this where someone usually posts the "Cool Story Bro" meme? ... Also not sure why the need for 'tat' , isn't a leash just something that restricts a dog's movement? Tubular webbing is $.30 a foot ... don't most of us climbers have webbing lying around ?

I'd go with your initial assumption as the reason why you see dogs running around at crags ...

I really enjoy dogs and I don't necessarily mind seeing them at the crags if they are well-behaved. But when did it become acceptable to let your dog run around and walk on other peoples ropes? and why do Coloradans seem to accept this behavior? That is what I don't get. I yelled at a guy for letting his dog run on my ropes and everyone at the crag looked at me like I was the bad guy... Personally I think people just accept it too much. If everyone raised a stink perhaps these irresponsible dog owners would get the message.

And note I realize not all dog owners are irresponsible. I've run into quite a few who are very respectful...

if they are well-behaved and under control then that is great!

Hmmm... maybe the solution, since you don't seem to mind dogs per se, is to come up with a way of training the dogs not to step on the rope. Teach that to the climbers with the dogs, and the problem is solved.

I may be naive, I had Border Collie crosses who could be easily trained to do/ not do pretty much anything.

The real problem is humans keep having babies, over seven billion of them and hardly anyone is dying. Blaming the dogs for this issue is very rich, so carry on.

Pretty soon there is just gonna be room for humans, algae, and bureaucrats.

So dogs, there is no room left for you, except inside a WASP home wearing a sweater-vest. That is, unless you move to SE Asia, where none a hound wears leashes, and you can still be eaten!

To the future! To progress!

The good...

Leave your dogs at home, and avoid any conflicts about whether you are a responsible dog owner. I have almost been bitten by dogs, they are left unattended by bad owners and left tied up while teams go up four pitches or so and leave Fido tied to a rock in the sun...

Dirtbag climbers can get a job and buy the three dollar lease.... Climbers do no need to be dirtbags and we should evolve from this characteristic. We all need money and no one likes a stinky partner.

My puppy is on antibiotics, and anti-inflammitories, her open wound is still draining, and the swelling in her head is only just starting to go down. This is because of a border collie mix.

If you had good luck with the breed, don't credit the breed. Shitty people have shitty dogs. The inverse is also true.

I just dropped my dogs off at the crag, and then headed to the office. It's like a free doggy daycare.

+1. A dog walking on a rope is no different than a person walking on a rope. Also, I wish the term Dirtbag never really needed to apply to the climbing community.

If puppies could selectively choose their owners based on said owner's ability to care for them, there wouldn't be any of these problems

That was definitely the solution where I used to climb in WV. Dog didn't even have to bite you.
And if any complained to the sheriff all he'd say would be "Why did you let him run around without a leash?"

Ever notice how a dog thread brings out internet tough guys?

We need to run a keyboard warrior speed test.

On this forum, a question asking for the best crag to climb with the dog off leash

On Stormfront, a question about what to do if you find out you are 1/16th black

and for a control, on Craigslist Rants and Raves, asking why a person would want to own a gun that isn't built for hunting.

Sure you did, when you first posted that pic on this site you gave us all permission to use it. Now, how did you get your dog to fuck a duck? Did it take training or was it a natural process?
