Can I make it out to Clark Canyon in my 2WD Suburban?

You'll make it out but you will likely bottom out in one spot. Go fast.

Getting out is NP.... down hill offroading is easy, just go FAST

Getting back up the hill can be a problem... drive fast up that sucker, unload passengers also helps. And go fast

I did it no problem in a 2WD Honda pilot a couple weeks ago.

Thanks for the responses. Haven't been out there in years and want to take the whole fam to climb at Area 13. Just don't want to get stuck.

Hows the road looking these days? FWD w/ clearance good enough (rav4/CRV/style)?

Was out there about 6 weeks ago and it was rough as ever.

Definitely glad to have 4wd.

I can see it being possible with off-road clearance + 2WD, but requires more skill on the part of the driver

I haven't been in a couple years or more, but the directions given on MP and the guidebook take you past the Big Springs CG (the left split on this map) and was the way I've driven.
Has anyone done the right approach? IIRC, it would avoid the rough hill section of the drive. Also, reportedly shorter timewise via google maps (assuming less turns I guess). But, is it sandy or something?

alternate? directions to Clark Canyon...

You would stay on Owens River Rd, then left on 2S32, then left on a unnamed road to head up towards the parking area.
Will try to scout it, if we're in the area soon...

Made it several times this summer with a Mercury Mountaineer not exactly off road status, and we never bottomed out. We even went slow both ways.

Made the normal route just fine - ground clearance and momentum are needed on the way up (back).
The alternate route I proposed above, appears to be blocked due to passing through private property (a [purposefully] downed tree and sign noted so).

edit: oh yeah, it specifically stated "dead end road. No river or climbing access ahead"

Nice job!

Too bad someone had to down a tree just to keep people from going around...

Did it no problem with GMC , a little wide so had some scratches from bushes, the road is pretty good just 10 feet of supposedly high clearance but did it just fine!!
