So I have found I really like the feel of the swing with Cassin X-All Mountain tools, but where I will be doing mixed climbing as well as pure ice, concerned about the B rated picks. Have yet to find any information on if there are T picks out there for them or not, does anyone have any info?

Or do they do fine on mixed with B picks?

I weigh in at around 200 lbs, and have heard stories of B picks breaking, thus my concerns.

They're modular. Get the X-Dry pick.

Edit: Or not. See below.

Or just use the B picks and see if you trash them.

X dry pick is still b-rated. And when I called to ask the cassin distributer about this exact change, they advised against using the x- dry pick in the all mountain.

Edit: I guess I should explain that they said while the x-dry pick is compatible with the all-mountain tool, the all-mountain pick is optimized for the all-mountain tool. So you don't gain anything by switching out the pick except a sub-optimal pick/tool geometry. Seemed odd to me but that's what I got out of the conversation. You can check the Cassin website on the X-Tool Replacement Picks ... all are b-rated. I assume it is because it is difficult to meet the T-rating spec with the thin picks that give you the snappy Cassin sticks.

The Cassin All Mountains are a great tool. They have nice natural swing. The All Mountains work well on low angle up to vertical ice. Myself and other friends climb mixed using the All Mtns with the pick that comes with it. My only suggestion to you is buy a spare set of X All Mountains to use for mixed TR fun and the original picks for ice climbing when you start leading. When you start leading ice you'll worry about all kinds of dumb shit. I would use the same picks for everything if you're toproping only.

Don't worry about Cassin picks breaking. Cassin has not seen any broken picks. Maybe they're out there but the owner never called Cassin for replacement under warranty.

Have you tried the X Dreams? Chances are the swing of the All Mountains suits you but don't overlook the Dreams. The X Dreams are the best tool out there. That's right i said it again MPers!

Kirby, do you work for Cassin/CAMP? Else how do you know no picks have been warranteed?

Tim, I know that information because i know people who work for Camp. We had a conversation about broken Cassin picks at the end of last winter. I spoke with a guy who told me of an X pick breaking and told a friend.

I'm nobody important so I write information i find out but don't name drop or try to prove anything. Like i said before, there might be broken picks out there but the warranty dept hasn't seen any as of last winter.

I got a pair of X-all mountains for this season after swinging Cobras all last winter. I've been using them on mixed lines set up in my gym (set with extra-hard holds and artificial ice) and I love them. Can't wait to get on some real ice with these sexy beasts... I'm also happy they did away with the home-depot orange on the first generation and have a much better looking metallic orange on the current ones.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
