A few of us will be heading over to Horse Pens 40 in early October from the Nashville/Franklin, TN area (we are from Austin, TX but my parents are in Franklin). Last year we rented pads at HP40 but they were barely usable for our standards. I've tried calling the climbing gyms in the Nashville/Franklin area but none of them rented out crash pads nor knew where to rent pads.

Does anyone know of any places that rent out crash pads in Nashville/Franklin? Or maybe around Birmingham, AL? OR, will anyone around Nashville/Franklin be willing to rent out their pads to us? We'll pay a rental fee!

I'm not from around there but I would try checking with the outdoor departments at the colleges in the area.

I've heard that The Crash Pad in Chattanooga rents out pads, but I don't know of anywhere else in the vicinity that does so. Perhaps you could contact them and see if they know of anyone else.

Good luck; have a great trip.

I know MTSU (in Murfreesboro) rents them out for a decent rate:
mtsu.edu/camprec/outdoors/r…

I think Vanderbilt/Belmont also have outdoor recreation programs, probably worth a call if MTSU doesn't pan out.

Yeah, we've rented from there before and will probably rent from them again when we go to Rocktown. But Chattanooga is a bit out of the way for going Nashville to HP40. :(

Thanks for the tip. Unfortunately it looks like the outdoor rec center at MTSU is closed on Saturday and Sunday, which wouldn't work for us since we fly in Saturday and leave Sunday to climb!

I'll check with the other schools in the area, hopefully one of them will work.

I have rented pads at First Ave Rocks in birmingham. But now just stash a pad at my folks house in birmingham. When are you going to be there? ill be at HP40 The 17th and 19th of october. But if you really need i could get my folks to put it out on the porch or something. They live 45 min from HP40 but only five min from I 65, and Moss rock (also in the guidebook) which is how you would come south from Nashvegas. Keep in mind that my pad is not much better than the ones you rent at Hp40.

We're going to be there from Sunday-Tuesday, October 5-7. Thanks for offering up your crash pad! We're probably going to fly in a couple pads so I think we're fine. Thankfully Southwest has no check bag fees :)

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
