Description Suggest change

A cool, concentrated collection of conglomerate boulders that makes for an excellent afternoon session. I started climbing here around two years ago, looking for a place I could walk to from my house to climb at. Thunder hill is one of those obscure Boone boulderfields. It's sharp, rocky, and definitely not the best of places to go in the high country, but if you're looking for something new to do, Thunder Hill is the place to go. The boulders feature a lot of slab climbing, and the rock type is different (for better or for worse) than anything else around. You might be on your own if you choose to spend the afternoon here, it's usually empty when I go... That being said, IF YOU KNOW ANY MORE OF THE BOULDERS not listed on this page, feel free to add! I encourage anyone to walk off the beaten path and put chalk on unclimbed boulders as well! And PLEASE, if I ever put out false information about a climb, or claim a boulder as my FA when it's really not, let me know!! Happy sending!

Getting There Suggest change

In Blowing Rock, North Carolina off the Blue Ridge Parkway just past mile marker 290.

You would think, by the name, that "Thunder Hill Boulders" would be somewhere off of Thunder hill. Well it's not. It's at the Raven Rock Lookout a few hundred yards down the road from Thunder hill.
Pull off at the Raven Rock lookout parking and walk along the grass to the right of the pull-off. Walk about a hundred yards until you see the thin trail to your left. Walk the trail about two minutes until you get to a fork in the trail. GO LEFT!! Follow this section of the trail to an endless wall of conglomerate.
