In all fairness, sometimes it is nice to explore, other times it is nice to climb. The best part about climbing is that we can all enjoy it for different reasons, and take away different experiences yet have a blast doing it. It sounds like Eddy and myself enjoy the climbing part a little more than the exploring established areas bit.

About 3 years ago I led Whitney-Gilman. It was a Thursday and we saw no other climbers on WG that day. Returning to the parking area, we checked the climber log book. A party had attempted to find the start of the climb and could not (!), then had returned to the parking area and left an angry message about how hard it was to locate the climb because there was inadequate signage directing them to the base. Seriously, they couldn't find the start of a climb that is obvious from the highway. Funny in a sad sort of way, like people who demand complete beta descriptions on every climb at Rumney. I've had my share of bushwacking and hiking marathons searching for boulders and cliffs, but I've never had any urge to spout on the internet about it. Yes, I would rather climb than wander around the woods looking for climbs, but where has the sense of adventure and exploration gone ? I work 5 days a week, sometimes more, and climb mostly on weekends. I think it's been a great season for weekend climbing this year. Keep it positive folks ! My .02
