Out of curiosity, I wonder if there are any similar "Men only" climbing events?

In this male dominated sport? I doubt it. But I'll keep my eye out for ya.

Good point, I see female only events in many sports, including those with heavy female participation, but never male only events. That said, I would rather participate in a mixed event than male only.

Kelly,

wasn't really looking of course. Just wondering.

Ditto!

I see no reason to separate. We're ALL "Climbers". ;-)

I don't climb with women in the mountains typically - that's not to say there aren't plenty of ladies that could drag me up and down a mountain, I just never run into them locally. The ones that have asked to climb with me, I don't feel confident in. Just doing my part to exclude, I guess?

Male only trips tend get pretty ugly. Last one I vividly recall. The discussion devolved into a general question being put to the rest of us? Who's defecation would you consume, such that it enabled you to achieve sexual congress with said defecateur? Sadly some had actual answers.

Be nice guys. Just cause there is a double ententre title to get a chuckle and folks attention doesn't mean that Kelly should be dissed on. Many women are more comfortable learning from a person they can empathize with. Women tend to be better at that than men, and it can be a more comforting and fun way for women to find their way into our sport. Not saying females are all more empathetic than men, but it tends towards that way as women perceive it for sure. It just creates a more open, interactive and enjoyable learning experience.

Good on you ladies putting this together, have fun!

It's not about excluding men. It's about providing a supportive space for women. I'm not saying that women can't thrive in a co-ed environment. And I'm certainly not trying to speak for all women. But the fact is, there's a different vibe at women's only events. Not better, just different. It's not uncommon for women feel that just by showing up in a male dominated sport, they somehow have to prove that they deserve to be there, whether or not the men at the scene actually think that. Sometimes it's nice to be in a group and not feel like anyone else is questioning whether or not you should be there.

The irony is both this and "chicks with picks" phallic references.

Penis envy much?

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
