Deep water solos in LA area?

Anybody care to share about any DWS within a day trip of the LA area? I assume it'd be seasonal at best, maybe in spring. Or if it is simply non-existent, where would be the closest area?

Deep water is not something one finds in So Cal.....

The Swiming Hole, up in the sespe has some water.....

See So cal bouldering guide by C. Fry... its on the cover

If you look on the ST... under So Cal Obscura T-fish put up a place in the San Gabriels.... where you climb out over a large pool.

Don't think I trust it for soloing.

matt c .... you got anymore info? wider angle shot?

The stone looks like standard San Gabriel choss.

T-fishes spot is just a bit downstream from Buckhorn CG.

Lots of good places to swim and climb, but nothing that will save you if you go 40 feet into the drink.

LMAO I love MP!!!
So many people will probably hate me for this but here it goes!!!
The Shot from the IE page is actually of my brother, it is some what of a not so big of a secret?
This wall is actually 1 of about Four or Five Large amphitheaters above deep deep water, 50-80 foot waterfalls and all!!!
Loads of potential!
I will first start off by saying Santa Catalina is probably your best bet. Have done a fair bit of DWS out there. Some great rock some not so great, above sharky water. Always makes for a great adventure. Mostly only accessible by boat, (a kayak will do for some places). Some cliffs are off limits due to sensitivity of the echo system, most are not. Definitely some radical shit to be done there.
Back to the pick of my Bro. It boarders national forest and private property. Hundreds of locals know about it and the best I can do is to say, the private property belongs to the San Jacinto Water Shed. A little research and you can probably figure it out?
Or PM me for more precise Beta? I might respond. :)
I know, I'm A Jack Ass!!! :)

Tar Creek (The Swimming Hole) is closed. Actually, it's always been closed as it is part of the Sespe Condor Santuary. The Forest Service just never enforced the closure. Lately, like the past 5 years or so, there had been a massive influx of visitors to the creek, mostly swimmers. With more visitors to the area, comes their micro trash and human food. Both are bad for condors.
In 2009, VC EMS air lifted 15 people out of the canyon who were having some sort of 'heat emergency'. I was on the lower Sespe, just above the Devils Gate that day and watched the whole thing. They were lifted out to Goodenough Rd to a waiting ambulance, which took them down to Santa Paula Hospital for treatment.
That same year, a condor was strangled by a piece of dicarded climbing rope. A close friend of mine who works at Hooper Mtn WR confirms that story.
Last time I was there (about two years ago) my son and I humped out about 100 pounds of garbage.
Lots a glass bottles, diapers and a friggin BBQ.
I guess the Forest Service had enough.
At present, it's a $5000/6 months in jail violation of they catch you down there. I'm told that your car will be ticketed at the trailhead. Don't be that guy.

Mention of Tar Creek hits a sore spot for some of the older locals around here. It used to be a premier bouldering area before the winter storms of 2004/05 completely obliterated those massive boulders. Still boggles my mind.

I always liked how Bob Banks called it the Mavericks of SoCal bouldering. Tall, scary and glorious.
C'est la vie.

Anyways, Tar Creek was a local secret for years; climbers, SAR and folks who live in Filmore. Pretty exclusive.
However, EVERYBODY knows about Santa Paula Creek aka The Punch Bowls, which is open.

Punch Bowls can get pretty 'trashy', but it's really the only option for DWS in Ventura County. The only problem is that the key ingredient for DWS is of course water. And unfortunately, there is not much water in our local creeks right now.

My first thought exactly. Low water is less than ideal for DWS.

Davi,
Thanks for the reply! I'll check out the punch bowls once we get a little more water! The picture above was listed in the inland empire homepage and I was hoping for something a little closer to home.

Lame about tar creek, it seems to be an on going trend.

Might be some stuff in Santa Barbara but I haven't been there yet so I can't be certain at this time.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
