Boulderers: The elusive class of climber?

Hey all,

I get on the MP forums almost every day but I rarely see much chatter about bouldering and that's got me curious. Is there another site somewhere that focuses on bouldering and they're hanging out there? Is there just not much to talk about with regards to bouldering? There's not much gear to bouldering, so maybe that has something to do with it. Are those climbers who focus on bouldering just not much interested in talking about it, and would rather be out there doing it? It just seems a little odd to me that there's so little bouldering conversation.

As a side note, I was hoping to find some people who boulder regularly around the Fort Collins/Loveland area who might let me tag along (even just once). I'm not solely interested in bouldering by any means but it'd be nice to have some company when I go out and get to watch some people better than I am. Plus having someone to guide me around the areas here a little and maybe give me some constructive criticism would be nice.

Hey, I just moved out of the Fort Collins area so unfortunately I can't help ya but I will reference you to the NCCC (northern colorado climbers coalition) free guidebooks that they keep on their website

nococlimbing.org/

Pretty good print-offs you can make on your own. As for bouldering partners, I'd say get out to Horsetooth Reservoir and get on a few things! That place always has a few climbers gumbying around on some routes. There is a great mix of difficulties there from V0-V6 with a few higher grades. Bring an extra crash pad to the party and everyone is stoked.

Also, there are some great boulders up in Arthur's Rock if you are feeling a little fiesty (V4-V10, hard grades) for some sharp granite.

Leo, thanks. I've actually already downloaded that guide, but finding the problems is still occasionally tricky. I also recently bought the Falcon Guide: Bouldering Colorado, or something like that.

I feel a little pushy asking if I can join in with a group, even if I am bringing a pad. I think it'd be hard for most people to say no, even if that's how they really felt. But maybe I'm overthinking it.

Us boulderers are an elite group of athletes. We have a super secret forum where everyone gathers. Daniel woods and Paul Robinson have daily journals on if. The website name can only be found etched into the top of v12 problems. That's the only way to gain access into the undergound forum, you have to send a v12.

Honestly I just think more people do more sport climbing so they talk about it more.

Moved to FOCO in July. Just head up to Horsetooth or Carter - you will meet people. There is a meetup group that boulders once a week and a lot of new folks cycle through it.

LMAO, quite the opposite. If it wasnt filmed and posted on the internet it didnt really happen.

Seems a lot of the discussion on here is about various pieces of gear and the best ways to use them, so for a boulderer there's not much along those lines to discuss

I can foresee a 10+ page discussion on the ethics of using a "sporty" electronic toothbrush vs a "traditional" one for cleaning holds.

Ground up vs top down brushing on new problems?

r/bouldering ---> r/showerthoughts:

If you rehearse a boulder on top rope and proceed to climb the problem isn't that a solo and not a boulder problem?

r/bouldering is decent

r/boulder is a big reclining chair

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
