I'm seeing this as well. I cannot update Boulder, CO, and can no longer access this area on my phone (from the app)!

Scenario - Running MP v3.0(build 62) on iPhone 4s iOS v7.1.2(11D257):
- Boulder data (from early Aug 2014?) was loaded and running fine.
- Requested area update.
- "Downloading..." completes w/o error
- "Unpacking..." completes w/o error
- "Installing..." goes to about 90% then the app either goes into background mode, or crashes. When I bring app to foreground it displays "Installation failed. Tap to retry."
- Tapping to retry fails as above.

I tried:
- Deleting the area: the app attempts to update the area prior to deleting (bug?!) and fails as above for the update.
- Uninstalling and reinstalling the app: same symptoms
- After reinstalling I tried loading another area (South Platte, CO). This loaded fine. (So seems like something specific to the current Boulder data)

Help?! This normally awesome app is pretty useless to me at the moment.

We have a fix for this issue that seems to affect older phones. It is being submitted to the Apple store later this week and will be available when Apple approves it (usually takes them a week).

Awesome. Thanks for letting me know! Is there a workaround I can use in the mean time?

Update: I was finally able to update the Boulder data. I power-cycled my iPhone and then tried again. The update process needed to be restarted a few times, but ultimately completed successfully.

I have tried all the tricks mentioned and I cannot download Boulder into my iPhone 4.

I have been unpacking data for 10% of my battery life.

Anybody?

iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S's have a memory problem with our app, and we submitted a fix to Apple on September 7th. They usually take a week to approve apps, and given that it's now 9 days, it should be any hour...

I did notice that when I uninstalled it and reinstalled it from itunes that it seemed to take up an entire gig of memory.

Thanks for your efforts!

The new iOS release is available. Let me know if that fixes it. If you've been having trouble, COMPLETELY REMOVE THE OLD VERSION FIRST.

FWIW, follow Nick's advice above. My experience:

  • Updated MP to v3.02
  • Deleted the Boulder area (why do I do these things to myself?)
  • Installed the Boulder area. The install failed as I described earlier (tried this 4 times)
  • Then updated my iPhone to iOS 8
  • Installed the Boulder area. The install failed as I described earlier (tried this 2 times)
  • Then took Nick's advice (I'm a slow learner) and removed the MP app.
  • Downloaded the MP app.
  • Installed the Boulder area. Success first time!

Thanks Nick!

Thanks Lenny! To be clear:
1. You do NOT need iOS 8. You do need 7.1.
2. If you have an older iPhone (4S or earlier), the bug caused a corruption in the MP database, and uninstalling the area doesn't fix it. You have to UNINSTALL THE ENTIRE APP, then reinstall.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
