Hi All,

I am going to be in green river area for a family camping trip and am looking to get away for a couple of days with a friend for some easy sport (5.10 range), bouldering, or very easy trad (like 5.6/7's)

Can anyone recommend a guidebook? We would prefer to do sport, but it seems that isn't really going to happen, so maybe a book that also has a decent section on the Big Bend bouldering area would be cool.

Thanks

mountain project will be as or more useful than any guidebook for you. big bend, ice cream parlor on kane creek, and a few places on potash road are going to be your best bet.

Just out is a new moab guide book, High on moab....
It has what you are looking for... Big bend bouldering, wall st., ice cream parlor, as well as sport climbing up in the mountains... The book can be purchased in moab at either climbing shop as well as the book store or buy on line from sharp end books!

Any opinion on the book as to whether it is worth picking up? Up to date?

It's a brand new book. Lots of new stuff and all the classic crags including the big bend bouldering area. I just got a copy. Psyched on checking out some of the new stuff.

Oh and all the profits of the book are donated to the access fund.

Karl wrote the book, so I bet you can guess his opinion.

Personally, I find guidebooks far easier to navigate and plan with than MP. I use both in tandem unless it's for area I'll only be at for a short time, then I muddle through with MP.

Some places like Moab, RMNP, Yosemite, RRG, NRG, etc, I'll get the guidebook even if I'll only be there a short time. It becomes part of my reference for future plans and aspirations.

Conversely, I live near a shit hole sport area, both CCC and Table outside of Denver. I cannot imagine a scenario where I'd ever want the guide to a place like that.
